    Hi all,
Can someone enlighten me on a cutter issue please?
What is DMPL & HPGL in terms of setting up a new cutter.
Basically I contacted a software company (Vinyl Master Pro) to ask them how to set up an unlisted cutter when using VMP. They were very helpful and explained how I should do this but they did stipulate that my cutter would be either DMPL or HPGL.
Seemed like pretty straightforward advice until I looked in the operation manual that came with the cutter. It states in there under "Parameters" and then in a sub section "Command Sets" and it is written as I have typed here: DMPL/HPGL.
Does this mean that it is both? Unfortunately I have no idea what the letters actually stand for.
    Regards,
    Mike Delta.

    DMPL "Digital Microprocessor Plotter Language"

A vector graphics file format from Houston Instruments that was developed for plotters.

HPGL "Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language" A vector graphics file format from HP that was developed as a standard plotter language.

Most plotters support the HPGL and DMPL standards

Half the cutters autodetect which language and the other half you have to manually set the language on the plotters menu.

DMPL is basicly a short hand HPGL
Hpgl uses PUx,y and PD x,y for (Pen Up to x,y and Pen Down to x,y)
Dmpl uses Ux,y and D x,y for (Pen Up to x,y and Pen Down to x,y)
Just dropping the "P" saves hundreds if not thousands of bytes.
This was important 15 years ago when eveyone had 64K ram and were transmitting at 1200 baud to cutters with tiny buffers.
