Hi, not quite a newbie as I’ve been floating around for a while. I joined last year when I was all set to venture into the vinyl cut business but unfortunately a few things fell through at that time so the money for the equipment never came up.

I still want to get set up, I’m a graphic designer and have had a few opportunities to do vinyl work but so far I’ve just done artwork and passed it on to other local companies.

The main problem is cost, I just want to be able to offer a side line to my business not as a core so I don’t have £1000s to invest. I’m a bit wary of equipment on ebay but if I knew what to look for they can’t all be bad.. can they?

I run PC and Mac and am after an entry level machine with software and drivers… that will run on either. or something that can cut straight from Corel or better still Illustrator as I think some do.

second hand or new no preference, has anyone bought a machine off ebay and could recommend? there’s some on there around £600

I posted a similar request for help in the past but I think it was removed… so hopefully this is worded in a way that wont offend or if it does can someone please let me know what the problem is so I can post within the rules.

I just want help and advice to join you guys in business at a very basic entry level.

I know there are suppliers etc represented on site and once I’m up and running hopefully I can upgrade quite quickly, I was all set up to spend about £2k with Graphtec but now I’m looking at about a 1/4 of that.

Please don’t shut me out – I just want to join your gang 🙂

Tim, i know the owners of the business bought a second hand 2 foot Roland about 10 years ago for about £2000…

The ebay deals are a bit wearey, mainly due to support and all the windows driver posts we get here… a lot of us dont use this equipment.

I have PM’d you with an idea, at the top it should say "You have 1 new message" or something like that.

    Hello, and welcome.

There is a possibility that I may have a 2nd hand Roland CAMM 1, 24" cutter for sale. Fully working, but we don’t use it anymore since we got our Mimaki. There is some sort of Roland software with it, and I’m fairly sure that there are drivers for CorelDraw (PC version) on Roland’s website. Never managed to get it working with the Mac. Can be seen working at our unit near Northampton.

I have offered it to someone, but still waiting on their reply. If they don’t want it, I would be looking at around £500 for it.

I will post it up in the for sale forum should it become available, but if you want first refusal, just let me know.

    Cheers,
    Jamie.

    Howya Tim

How about becoming a Creation Pcut owner, you can get them from eBay cheap enough. But since your in England why not give Alan Flynn a blast. Good support and you can get a 1220mm cutter for £695 they cut well. Some issues with drivers but that’s basically you need the newest. Easily got, I had more problems with my flexi software drivers than I had with pcut drivers.
Alan gives good support, which you won’t get from a lot of Chinese sellers on eBay.

Become a Pcut owner we are a underrepresented minority. 🙂

Thanks for the replies and your help.

Dave cheers for the PM, could be helpful.
Jamie please let me know if your deal falls through.
And Micheal thanks for the ebay recommendation, I have seen them on there but would be buying blind without your help.

hopefully I can sort something out soon one way or another…

… then you can look forward to all the newbie idiot questions from me… how do I do…?

    :lol1:
