  Fixing Fascia Signs to eneven wall

  Hi there,

  I have a shop front fascia sign 4mtr x 1mtr 5mm foamex with unitrim frame to install. The wall in question dips back from start point by about 6". How would you pack and finish surround. (sorry if this sound a silly question but would really appreciate your views). "Newbie to signs think I should stick to print only"

  hi Colin, You could use a sheet of exterior ply as a backing, 12mm. fixed to the wall using "U" shaped steel or aly brackets, bent to the desired gap size.
  B&Q do "Meccano" type strips with predrilled holes that are ideal for this purpose. Finish off with fascia board, top and bottom.

  As Peter suggests – firstly get something behind that foamex!!.

  Don’t skimp & just get two battons top & bottom and build an open frame as the wind WILL blow the panels out. I’d suggest (if foamex is the only way to go) that you also used top & bottom retaining/hanging strips and add a packing section behind the join and add in a couple of screws through the face and into the ply backing (disguised) to make damn sure it doesn’t move or blow out.

  I’ve attended sites (not mine) where 8×4’s have departed & dissapeared in high winds so it does happen!!

  U section brackets sound great idea. I take it I just fix cladding to the U brackets to finish off sides top & bottom?

  PS. Not sure if there are any good books available for sign making for beginners. Quite keen to learn as the sign market seems so to be so interesting & diverse with so many new challengers to overcome.

  Colin dont know if its still in print, but "signworks,a craftsmans manual" by Bill Stewart
  is a good book to read isbn no. 0-246-12195-5
