  • why wont my black vinyl not stick in recesses?

Posted by Brian Little on 27 June 2006 at 08:03

ive just recently put large black panels on a movano .The material ive used is a flat black from victory (7-10 year cant remember the code ) although the recesses are not that drastic it doesn’t seem to want to stick .Ive put on larger panels than this without any hassle…any help would be appreciated .

ps the panel was well cleaned with meths before application and i heated it before and after application

    regards Brian

thats the idea Brian, we don’t have those vans here but a few vans out of europe seem to have a similar thing now. Just wondering if it was the same problem as you get on the sprinter which has that same issue. 🙄

Heat the area concerned, see if it goes all glossy. Clean with IPA if it does. Keep heating it and cleaning it. Get it as hot as you think it will stand, which will be pretty hot.

If it does not go glossy, not sure what the answer will be then.

Someone here may have a better answer tho.

    Mornin’ Brian

    Just a quick one.

Looked at my Victory "multi-fix" swatches – was it (5yr) 5000 ‘pro’ or (7yr) 9000 ‘polycast’ or something else that they do?

The ‘flat black’, do you mean matt? I’ve always found any matt vinyls to be slightly less conformable (no idea why).

It could just be a silicon wax or "back to black" crap that got skooshed everywhere. If it’s a split new van, sometimes there is still the transport wax on the paint.

If you did it wet, the glues can take forever to get to full strength.

Anyway – hope you get it sorted (by hook or by crook) even if it means doing the recesses separately and dry as a last resort.
