  what can i use to print a rear-light cluster?

  We have asked to create a rear bumper / shelf of a car (don’t know which model yet) and the client wants to light it.

  Creating the bumper & rear panels wont be to much trouble( I hope) but l was wondering what would give me the most realistic tail light effect?
  I was thinking that if l got clear perspex and shaped it and then got coloured vinyl cut or a printed light cluster and stuck it to the perspex. Any ideas?

  It would be possible to get coloured perspex but making these up with the different colours could be very time consuming.

  Unusual request but not as bad as looking for a mannequin/ bust to suit a D to J cup size.

  Can you not use a lense from a proper car lamp

  I suspect the proper lense may be a tad to small

  Foamcutter dosnt do small!

  I just had a thought, it may or may not work, but some trough lighting systems have a sort of difuser lense in a diamond patern. Very much like tail light lenses. it is clear, but with translucent vinyl, may give the required effect?

  Thanks Peter……..size matters.

  Actually for this job it’s going to be 1:1 scale, which we don’t normally do.

  Trying to source the original lense maybe a problem l suspect it’s going to be an unusual model.

  Hi Peter
  My thoughts, lots of vehicles these days are using Led strip for the brake light, and as Peter said the diamond diffuser perspex sounds right for the job, if you get in touch with your local perspex supplier and ask them to send you the swatches for the different types of clear profile/diffuser perspex they should know what you mean.
  Led’s you can get from a number of places to whatever length you want, that run on 12 volt, you want the bright ones red is the cheapest.

  Thanks for the reply Chris,

  the diamond cut perspex sounds like a good idea, I’ve e-mailed a couple of companies that l found through google.

  We have to meet with the client later this week to find out exactly which model it’s going to be, we just wanted to get some research done first.
  The current guess is the old 911 carrera turbo with the big wing …….. the LED’s might not suit that vintage of car but we will wait and see.
