If i type in some text in say, silver. The apply a 10px stroke round the outside of it. Is there a way to get illustrator to give me the vector of the outside of the stroke rather than the inside. I would like to have the text as silver and have it on a black outer shadow type thing.

    Gav,

There might be a way that I dont know when still as fonts (tried the same thing as you without success) – but instead I gave up and converted text to curves and then used object>path>offset path. Bit of a pain getting the right offset – a bit of trial and error.

    Hope helps.

You need to convert the text to outines (under -Type> Create Outlines) this will vectorise the font and then you can put the stroke around this. When you are happy with the stroke, this can be outlined (Object>Path>Outline Stroke)

    This should sort it.
