  • how digital are you?

I was just going over the papers here and saw my anticipation come true and then some..

cut vinyl has always been slacking in our shop, but nothing prepared me for this.

in figures cut vinyl represents less than 5% of our income.
everyrhing else is digal printing or print/cut, be it on the edge, summa dc3 or rockhopper (gerber jetster)

t-shirts are a seperate thing but we’re thinking of buying a T-jet (saw it on fespa) so even shirts are going to be digitally printed.

if you add it all up we have an income largely deivided in 2: cut vinyl an digital printed (and cut),
cut vinyl representing about 5% an digital representing a whopping 95%

i have to say that 2 years ago the tables were turned but it’s a fast evolution in both custumor demand and our core buissiness.

do you also see this evolution in your shop and/or area?

    just being curious 😎

Dennis, I did that Math today coincidently.

I would have bet that I’d be 70% Digital and 30% computer cut, but based on my sales for the last 5 months, I’m 55% computer cut and 45% digital. Surprised me to be honest.

This time last year I was 30% digital, so I do see a revolution, albeit slowly.

I’m still mainly cut vinyl even though I have been running a Cadet for the last 6 months and prior to that a PC600 since 2001.

I would say 90% vinyl and 10% digital. However I do use the printer to produce many things that could be made using vinyl alone but find the printer is much quicker and easier. Safety signs and labels are another key use for the printer

I don’t see computer cut vinyl going away for a while yet but couldn’t manage without a printer now as it is so versatile

we do a hell of allot of cut vinyl. we have 2 wide cutters, 54" & 48" going constantly all day, 5 days a week. i really don’t see us ever taking over the cut vinyl to digital. at least not for a while…
like Phill, we do lots of stuff with our printer that we never did before and we would certainly be lost without it. it took us well over a year to find our feet and establish digital printing within our company. even though we had a list of customers that required printing.
i think we are about 75% cut vinyl, 25% digital printing. that said, in the last week we have gone through 300 metres x 1230 wide of digital printing for a new order we have began… so i see this possible tipping the scales in months to come.

    After the week that was……….

    I’m thinking 70% cut 30% digital,……… [20% router, 10% gerber edge, 40% design,85% answering the phone, 100% keeping the plates spinning, 5% tourettes, 2% left eye twitching, 1% IBS, and another 263% f*{cked off]

    Have a good weekend

Well for us, I would say we are 50% cut, 50% digital + other areas of business (like router/fabricating and design etc)
