its an ether cable that i used to use for my router to connect to my pc

Make sure your rip is set to communicate with the IP address of the machine (ie: put in the IP address of the canon into your RIP software), if you have done this, then, depending on your setup, if you havent already, try setting your Default gateway on the canon to the same address as your canon IP address. Generally, depending on your setup, your subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
Please give some more information if this doesnt help, and i may be able to assist in more detail.

If it’s connected directly you may need a crossover cable.
The cables used to connect to routers are parallel.
A- Check the manual if you need a crossover cable
B- if not, check if your cable is ok.Network guide for w8200 in pdf:

If its connected directly, you will definitly need a crossover cable.

hi
if i look at both ends of my cable side by side the wires are in the same order.
i have just looked at this link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Verg … rkabel.gif
and as you can see the wires are not in the same order. so i guess i have the wrong cable?
thanks

Sometimes it a bit hard to tell, but yeah, it certainly sounds like you need a crossover cable, but only if your canon is plugged directly into the machine your running it from, if its going through a switch, then your current cable is whats required.

ok thanks
i think that may be the problem…
i have linked my pc direct to my printer

hi
i have now bought a crossover cable and i am still not getting the pc and printer to talk to each other.
i have done an ipconfig in command prompt and found my ip, subnet mask and default gateway.
i have put these values into the printer.
i have been told to change the last digit of my ip when i put the value in the printer. so my ip ends with the number 3 so i have put the number 4 in my printer.
any more ideas as i am getting a bit fed up now

hi all
many thanks for the advice.
i am a complete novice to this printing lark and the printer has been bought for my partner. She wants to print photo images to canvas in her spare time as a hobby.
The printer is an ex demo, it came with no manual or software to install.
I specifically asked the salesman if it would be difficult to achieve what she wanted to do given the limited knowledge, i asked him if i would need training in graphic design or be an experienced printer. He said no as the printer was really easy to set up and was just like a bigger version of our desk top printer, its a big plug and play printer. I also asked if i needed a RIP, he also said no everything would be fine.
so now i find myself with a printer that i cant use, people taliking about ip addresses, RIPs, crossover cables etc all of which i was not told about.
I can find my way around a pc and can follow pc intructions easily so if anyone could do me a step by step guide from scratch i would be most grateful.
The printer works as i have done a testpage manually from tghe printer.
I have downloaded the following drivers from canon:
Garo Printer Driver (Add printer wizard for Windows2000/XP/2003) (2.51)
Garo Printer Driver (Setup Programme for Win2000/XP/2003) (2.51)
GARO Status Monitor v2.50 (v2.50)
Canon NetSpot Console for Windows v4.10.2a (v4.10.2a)
GARO Status Monitor v2.41 (v2.41)
my next step will be to get a pro in to set it up or i might stick it on ebay
thanks in advance

i have just downloaded the canon setup utility and drivers and installed again.
got a little bit further on the driver install as the w8200 came up in a "add printer" window.
when i used the utility program i had to re-input the ip,subnet mask and g/w default back in to the printer menu.
I did a ping on ip,subnet mask and g/w default which test ok, but the ip that printer is set to, i get timed out messages.
i have tried all combinations of crossover cable and normal ethernet cable. i have tried direct from pc to printer and through a netgear wireless router with both cables.
any more ideas?

Hello,
I could be wrong, and stand to be corrected, but I am fairly sure that you will not be able to simply use this as a plug and play printer. I would expect that a printer of this size needs an independent RIP, not just a Windows printer driver. Hopefully, someone running a similar type of machine will be
able to clarify.I have a friend who has just bought the same machine, and he has been
talking about having to buy a PC and RIP to be able to use it.Sorry I can’t be of more help.
Cheers,
Jamie. -
thanks jamie
i will get on to the salesman as i made it clear that we are novices and we needed something that was easy to use.
i installed the posterjet Rip trial late last night and i still no joy.
does anyone know of a company or person in the Rotherham/Sheffield area that could come and set me up. I am willing to pay.
thanks
