Sticky Situation
Posted by Martin Kennedy on 21 May 2006 at 21:07Hello all
Looking for some help again…
We have made some holders for a mobile phone company to allow potential customers to try out the phones at corporate events. The holders are the type where people can pick up the phone and have a play with them and the are secured by a retractable wire at the back.
Normally these mobiles are not real and the wire holder can be held on with a small bolt/screw from inside. Our customer is using real phones and we need to fix a brass nut to the back of the phone. We have tried all the 3M VHB tapes as well as 2 part resin/glue without any real success.
Can anybody recommend a glue or adhesive tape that will work? It does not ever have to be removed after fitting so the stronger the better!!
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks
Martin

Thanks Marcella
The first thing I did this weekend was to check out the thistothat.com website (thanks to you too Peter) and I will make contact with the suggested companies tomorrow.
I just wondered if anybody on the boards has done this type of fixing before and what they might have used.
Martin.
PS – love the new pic, you look about 16 in it !

i use a two part putty for some things.
basically you nead it together with your fingers and press it onto glass, metal, plastic whatever. leave for 24hrs (i think, could be less) it will harden like stone and is stuck solid. you can drill or screw right into it. -

That sounds good – can you tell me where I might get the said putty (Brand name if possible)
P.S. I was at the SignUK show on the Tuesday and when I saw your display stands dotted around the hall I considered taking my avator off the site! Seriously tho’ they were very eye catching but I didn’t stop to read what it said on the panels in case someone saw me…

Hey – here’s a (very bad taste) joke for you…
A man working in a gold mine was crushed badly by a piece of equipment. After extensive surgery he survived but unfortunately lost a leg.
While recovering in hospital he said to his friend "I’m in the sh*t now. Who would want a one-legged gold digger?"
"I WOULD!" shouted Paul McCartney.

Hi Rob
Just a gentle reminder to ask you to look at that shelf of yours in the tool store and let me know the name of the putty. 😮
Thanks again for your help.

Hiya Martin,
These products should be available in your area…
http://www.lord.com/
I’ve seen some very strong bonds of unususal combinations of materials that they’ve glued together.
I’d say locate a local distributor and see what they would recommend.Cheers,
