  • problem with oracal 352 Silver Vinyl unrolling help please?

Posted by Tark Malbot on 5 May 2006 at 16:40

    A roll just arrived today.

I took it out of the card board tube and it was stuck with masking tape. As i took the tape off the roll un coiled and became larger in diameter. As I started to un-roll the end to feed into my plotter creases appeared all over the viynl covering the whole width. Reminded me of a crack appearing in the floor of a movie.

Whats this all about! Surely it should not do that and how do I get them out? The more you un-roll it the more appear. NOT HAPPY!

And how do I know its Oracal vinyl? There is nothing on the backing paper. What should I do?

I will take a photo now.

i would have said, if it was branded oracal i would call and ask for it to be changed. but i doubt that is oracal mate… they could say its 3M or even avery… in fact anything to get the sale…
i remember many moons ago getting foils doing this. normally crap to be honest. not worth buying. only way to get that to cut is get someone to help… lift the vinyl and re-lay it onto the carrying paper using a felt squeegee. you will only get a few feet at a time like this though but it does work. not worth the hassle if you have a big job, just buy in new stuff.

we have used oracle chrome in fact I still have some, never had a problem with it rippling on the roll or any where else, it also has no branding on the carrier paper, but bought from europoint. perhaps the stuff you bought was old and the adhesive was non viable. sorry I have no answer for you.
sorry confused you said silver the picture looked like chrome 🙄 in fact 352 is chrome

I’ve had chromes do that before. Let’s face it, it’s nasty stuff!

I find reflective does that unrolling trick aswell sometimes.

chopped off affected area and tried to get it out best I could. The rest seemes to be ok if your gentle with it.

As for the supplier. they say it is oracal but dont have any proof. They are sending me out another meter to cover the problem.

the material has expanded more than the backing paper whilst it has been rolled up. either roll it out flat for a day or two or if if in a hurry as rob said lift and lay down.

    (VERY unfair comment !!!!!)

NOT all Ebayers are bad !!

this IS oracle , yes there is no branding on the back , but comes to us boxed as Oracle from a supplier you all use…..

As we ship in small lengths and only have one box , we use alternative packaging…..

The problem doesn’t occur on all shipments , so we can only assume its something in transit , i think maybe the odd tube is being subjected to more heat than the film can handle , therefore some sliding going on with the carrier paper , we only ship 1mtr orders in tubes now , anything more has a much larger box so’s not to roll too tightly (maybe this also was an issue) .

Tark has had the effected area replaced and has left good feedback , we would never let anybody down , nor do we lie to get a sale….

hi Steve, sorry mate, nothing personal inteneded. even my younger brother uses eBay allot, buying and selling… but by selling i mean junk around his house… anyway, i am still of the opinion its a giant flee-market where the amount of wrong doing is beginning to overshadow a once great site.

this is eBay we are talking about mate and you are certainly not an oracal distributor, so i dont think you can you blame us for assuming this could be any old vinyl?

Steve I don’t think any one was doubting you, didn’t know you had suppied it till you said so I know it has no branding on the back I said so,
also you sorted the problem so what is the problem ? non as far as I can see.

ok , calmed down now…..auto defence mode you see…..good job i’m not in charge of that red button…….

Obviously ebay is full of con men & women , i have hit many myself , its a shame….but i keep telling people that feedback ratings are the way to find honest people , our feedback (wife runs it) is way above 7k , and 99% of bad feedback is from people that get a faulty or damaged product etc and instead of trying to get this resolved with us they go for negative feedback , Tark nearly did it to us when he got 👿 , but he obviously mailed us after posting and he got it replaced free of charge……just a shame its all hung out to dry here i suppose..

    Steve
as Rob asked the question "where did you buy it from" I dont understand why the link has been modded.
You have dealt with the complaint in an honourable way, and I think the whole story should be told.
Forums tend to do slagging off a bit one sidered, but in this case you have replied, so well done. I think your link should be re-instated?

    Just my opinion

if it is reinstated it is pointing to Steve’s on-line eBay shop selling vinyl to our members, which in turn means he becomes a supplier.

Steve also ended his post using his eBay "trading name"

can a uksg member be a supplier? :no1:

I answered a previous post in our trading name because links to our ebay shop etc where in one of Tark posts (thats how i new he got it from us) , this has also been edited now , so really i wouldnt have said a thing if direct links to our merchandise where not here…..strange his posts dont show mod edit though ??…..

So i apologise to all if it looks like i’m going over the top , but like i say , our shop link was here earlier….but edited out without a mode edit comment…

goto go now , lots to do tomorrow and still need to make a bed up , just had to come down as the wifes snoring is getting tooooo much

ps , Rob , i’m sure its ok for a supplier to be a member of the board as long as he/she doesnt promote there products ? , after all , a supplier may have very useful tech info for us !!

I know the stuff, I bought a part roll from Europoint.

The problem we have is not with the adhesive or lining paper, but with the "metallic" material.

You will notice that when your peel off a section, the sheet looks 100% flat in appearance and mirror like, but when its on the roll (or after application) this fantastic mirror like state is lost.

I had exactly the same problem only a week ago, fault only occurs with heat causing expansionh. "Metallic" films suffer more than Vinyl. because the stretch is more uniform.

No point in blaming anybody, try staying away from this type of material, its extremely diffiuclt to handle. External use is limited. And forget doing anything that has curves on the object that your applying to (car etc).
