  • Artcut 2005 Installation Problem

Posted by Tark Malbot on 4 May 2006 at 11:07

A new and sealed copy of Artcut 2005 came with my Pcut plotter but after installing it on a new Dell PC with Windows XP the program will not open. When you click the Artcut icon it promps me to insert the CD-R and install the program. I have read the instructions and can not understand what this is about. The CD2 all seems to be in a different language. I have un-installed it and re-booted etc etc but it still does the same thing every time.

Anyone else had this problem? Is it my computer or maybe a duff copy of the program? What is the CD2 used for? It has an installer on it but is in a chineese that my PC wont display not that I could understand it anyway! lol.

    Thanks,
    Mark.

    Hi,
I’m using artcut 2002 and your 1st installation of the software was right. The second disc I think is for anti-piracy, every now and then when clicking into artcut 2002 it asks me to insert the 2nd disc. If you have uninstalled, install again then when prompted insert second disc. You will see a pop up window, either agree to this or close it and then try double clicking the artcut shortcut – it should open.

    Cheers John

Cheers. I spoke to the guy who I bought the plotter off and he said something similar. Just doesn’t say anything in the manual I have about that. Unless I didn’t read it all properly. 🙄

Thanks for the help. I will try it when I get home.

Do what John says, i used Artcut 2005 and mine did the same. If you instert a disc and it doesn’t do anything try the other disc. It use to do it all the time with me.
    Just keep trying 😀

What cutter are you using? I got Artcut with my Pcut 630 but i changed software to Signgo, it’s alot easier to get to grips with and has alot more to it. Very cheap aswell 😀

Dingtec 630, imported it from Hong Kong. Use coreldraw to design, convert to curves and export as eps then import into artcut. I don’t use artcut to design anything – just use it to cut.

    Chapter 2 START

    1. Get in the spftware
    1.1 Select program …….
1.2 At your first time of entering Artcut software, the program will prompt to insert Artcut Graph Disk into CD-ROM to confirm the system.

    🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

    DOH!

I got artcut 2005 and it isn’t responding with my cutter. I got a big order for t-shirts 2moro and I don’t know what I’m gonna do. I got a LIYU 630 plotter. I rebooted the software a few times and checked the connections on both the plotter and the computer and everything seems to be fine but it just wont respond when I press cut. I’m in desperate need for help.

Have you got a registered copy of the software or a demo version? I seem to remember reading somewhere that some plotters were supplied with a demo version of the software and it would stop working after a period of time.

I am having a similar problem with my Pcut 630 and Artcut 2002 software.
After much messing around, i finally have the driver installed for the Pcut and have managed to get the Artcut software to install properly and load but I cannot get the cutter to cut anything.

I bought the cutter second hand (8 months old) from a private sale so I am stuck with no backup assistance. If anyone has any ideas I would be greatly appreciative.

I can draw in the Artcut software but when i go to cut it just does nothing.
The same thing seems to happen with signgo, I can make the lettering but nothing happens when i go to cut.

    Hi there

I had similar prob when i bought my cutter 3 months ago, installed the software ( artcut 2005), was able to draw but nothing when came to cut. After two days, copious amounts of caffeine and way too many cigs, i found that although i had installed the driver it wasn’t set up in the correct usb port.
I had two disc for art cut software, and one un marked disc, with what looked like pictures on, i ignored this at first, but as i say two days later , looking throu the disc and noticed it was pics of the windows menus i had to set up , which port, and settings required etc… it working fine now.

If i can think of any more will post!!
    Tris

ps. i did have prob of the cutter going mad and making random cuts, found the cutter needed to be earthed, just look out for that!

My Artcut still just won’t transmit anything to the cutter. Literally tried everything and it won’t cut anything out.

Are there any other software we can get to use? One that’s pretty easy to understand because although we’ve finally got to grips with it, there’s still a lot I don’t understand and the help feature proves no help.

It’s probably not Artcut itself. Make sure your cutter is not sharing a port with something else. Also, when I plugged my cutter in it was assigned to port:COM12, but Artcut didn’t have an option for COM12 so I had to manually assign it to COM2 and it works a treat. The only problem I have is I can’t get it to cut using CorelDraw at the moment, but seeing as Artcut can import eps files it’s not a great deal of trouble.

Hm I wouldn’t know how to assign the ports though!

Go in to control panel and click the System icon. Click on hardware tab. Then click on the Device Manager button. On the list that opens up, expand the item labelled as Ports. Your cutter should be listed there with the port number in brackets. If it’s anything other than 1 or 2 then that could be your problem. Right click on your cutter name and select properties. Select the Port Settings tab and click the Advanced button. There is a drop down list where it says port number, you need to select COM1 or COM2. I changed mine from COM12 to COM2. If something else is already using that port number then you may need to reassign that afterwards as it still might not work. I tried sharing a port and it wouldn’t work for me. If Artcut allowed you to select any port then this wouldn’t be a problem but as far as I can tell it will only let you select LPT, USB, COM1 & COM2. USB wouldn’t work for me so I settled for COM2 and the cutter works perfectly. You will then need to tell artcut what port it is on before it will work.

I notice some comments about "dummy" or "demonstration" versions of Artcut. There are no such things. There is only one, fully working version.

I have suggested many times to Beijing Wentai (the writers of Arcut) that they should provide better (some?) service and support the product better, they argue that it is sold cheaply (AU$8) so they can’t afford to.

I have tried to explain to them that if they made it AU$100 and offered some service and assistance customers would be happy to pay that price.

Practically all problems people have getting Artcut to talk to cutters (of all flavours) are due to either settings in Artcut OR (and most often) issues within your PC.

So many times I have corrected these problems simply by running a registry fixer program. Artcut will not tolerate any such registry issues. Chinese companies are used to reformatting and re-installing their operating system every few months as the level of trojans and viruses floating around there is simply incredable. Chinese users never have these connection problems as their systems are always freshly installed.

Westerners don’t do this and so problems creep in to their PC often without them knowing about it.

If you want a truly reliable system, running Artcut, buy a second hand $100 PC and run ONLY Artcut on it – you might be surprised at how reliable it actually is – every single sign shop in China runs Artcut and they do OK with it.

    Cheers

I’ve been using Artcut since I bought the cutter last August. I had a slight problem when my daughter removed the USB lead to charge her ipod. I had to reinstall the driver and reassign the ports. The software itself I have found to be very good now I am more used to it. I have also found that at first I couldn’t import a lot of .eps files properly. Now I used CorelDraw to convert to lineart then export it again as an .eps file and Artcut will then import it properly.
