  • Advice For Making A Banner Using A Versacamm Please ?

    Hello Everybody

I have been asked to give a quote for an indoor banner – full colour – measuring 17" x 15 foot !

Firstly (I know this might sound a stupid question – so apologies) how do I cut it to 17" – I would guess that it is cut down to size after being printed – but is it a case of the ol’ Stanley knife and a ruler??

Secondly – I would also hazzard a guess I would need to put some sort of holes/eyelets in it to be hung with – what is the best equipment for this?

Thirdly – how much should I quote for this sort of job? I haven’t the faintest idea, as I usually only print small items, in relatively small quantities.

It’s brown trousers time here folks 😳 please help???

    Hi Martin.
Yes, you just cut it with a straight edge and a ruler. Also, depending on the material you are using, you may want to fold over the edges and sew it, or tape it using "banner" tape. Not sure on the brands over there. We have a few in the states that are good.
Grommeting can be done by hand or with a grometting machine. Not sure on the cost for either, but a hand grommeter should do the trick.
Also, if you have a tailor nearby it may be worth going by their shop and seeing if they have the capability to sew and hem banners. They may also have a grommet machine.
Price? No idea, I do mostly non-commercial projects.
    Hope this helps a little.

Martin you can have banners made with hem’s and eyelets, printed full colour to any size at the moment can’t recall who doe’s them but I’m sure people on here do, and if you don’t know the answer it can’t be a stupid question 🙄

    Hi Martin,

We cut our banners using scissors (add a cut line 25mm all around the banner), then apply bannerbond tape from B&P Lightbrigade. For a one off, you can get an eyelet kit at your local hardware store, for longer term, get an eyelet press from DTP supplies.

As for pricing, depends on your local area and competition really.

    Chris.

    Thanks for the replies everybody.

I’ll have to have a good think about this one – tomorrow when I am more awake.

I guess the issue with pricing is that I don’t want to be too cheap rather than too expensive 😕

Martin I print my banners with a hairline around the edge of the print area. This becomes the fold line. Cut it 25 or 35mm off that printed edge to give you a piece to fold.

Most welders prefer a 35mm fold, most stichers prefer a 25mm fold.

Pricing; don’t forget a full colour banner is a better value than a normal banner. Don’t go in too cheap. People will percieve the value as higher because it will look so much better than on old style job. In reality it is probably cheaper to produce tho.

    hi martin
i think pricing for full colour banner should be approx £8.00
per sq ft this would allow for any mishaps & design work you have to do.
