how do you get prepared for striping a vehicle?
Hello,
A customer asked me if I could make some striping for his (hobby) Alpina and I would really like to help him but I don’t have any experience in this type of business.
It is the same car and striping as on the photo.
What do you do with these projects: measure, redraw and plot at full length? Or would you order it somewhere? How would you take a job like this?
Hope to get some tips.

the last time i was asked for that one i offered the customer a big roll of pin line and two words for 25 quid or a 200 quid bill done.
photo each panel and the complete side of another or before removal and use cast tape

For that one I’d photo, measure & plot. Manual pinstriping from a roll is quite a skill. Sure, the stuff for the bumpers is easy… 😕
Just price as a commercial vehicle with logo re-generation.

I’ve done a few jobs like these. The trick is to measure everything twice, take lots of photos & tracings & allow plenty of time to re-create it on the PC & to actually do the job, then add a bit more time.
This type of job usually ends up biting you in the arse & making you very little, if any profit, but if like me, you are a sucker for nice cars, the rewards at getting it right are worth it.

I was looking on ebay and found a set in with printed plans included. It is in black, but it would be allot easier to copy from flat decals then from photos of cars I guess.
Would you think Euro 200 – 250,- (approx. 174 GBP) is a good price for a new set (silver Avery800) or would you charge more/less?JJ

bet he wouldn’t get any other parts for that car for less than £300
you would need at least that much and more -
Ask what you feel is a fair price.
To me its 5m of vinyl max,(if you have the artwork) 30 min cut and prep. 2 hour apply
Dont know what your local market would stand, or how much the client wants, or can afford to pay for the work.Customers will shop around, so whatever you do, be competetive, but still point out the advantages re quality of the materials you will use etc.
