i cant help with your specific software as i dont use it, but, the secret really is to learn how to draw, manipulate, and join lines in a way that makes for easy cutting. use and manipulate shepes where you can,

there is a couple of simple demos in the demo forums mate, vectorwise did a video one too just recently, covering the basics.
i dont use illustrator, but i am sure you can vectorise pretty easy from that.
corel allows you to do the same, not sure if all the versions of corel do it but if they do you can pick up older disks for nothing. sometimes come taped to magazines. -
As Hugh said. Look at the image you want to recreate and break it down into shapes. First thing to do with your software is to get familiar with the the linestyles, shapes and welds. You dont need any add ons or anything special to vectorise, as illustrator is tailored for this.
There is a demo on simple vectorising although not using Illustrator, but the idea is the same.

Here is the file in Illustrator format, open it and have a look in outline mode, have a mess around and see how you get on.

Wow cheers
Wasnt expecting someone to actually do the work.
I will have a play.
Secondly my Illustrator is only 30 day trial. Anyone know who the cheapest seller is of Illustrator?
I have CS2.
Also for the Logo Above can it be cut directly from Illustrator or do I need an Add In?.
Thanks

I have just used Sign Blazer to try and cut this out for an example
However it only does. The circle and an outline of the monkey any ideas?

If you have Illustrator CS2 then there is a feature that will allow any image to be vectorized through a setting called live trace. There are different options available depending on the image. This can be a quick way of achieving a vector image, but the best way is to redraw the image by using the tools supplied.
I have been using Illustrator for approx 8 years and find it very easy to use so have a play with the tools and you should find it pretty easy and quick to pick up.

Tim,
We use Illustrator and bough version 10 for shy of £200.00 six months ago.
Unless your willing to use pirate versions which we wern’t, I would recommend using version 10 as you won’t need the features in CS being a newbie n all.
Oh, and there is no cheaper way of buying this software, OEM software isn’t legal to use unless you have the system you bought it with.
Honestly, it is easier just to bite the bullet and shell out for a genuine legal version. You’ll also get all the help you need with a genuine copy.
Hope this helps.
Aaron.

4 Hours later
And still working on it.
I have now purchased and installed Illustrator 10.
When I view the file in either Sign Blazer or Sign Cut it only shows the outline?.
Is there other software which integrates into illustrator that cuts or?
Apologies for the questions.. just a little frustrated, or am I being stupid?.
Any ideas?
Tim
