  • New at vinyl cutting Need Setting advise (Desay 300)

Hello, I am new at this vinyl cutting for signs. I am having a problem that I am sure is a depth, speed or pressure problem but I am running out of vinyl to waste.
When I cut any design, the vinyl starts to peel up as the cutter is still cutting (on the corners of the cut and cutbacks). I have tried different cut pressures (desay goes 100 to 800 grams), and cut speeds but cannot seem to stop it from peeling up and popping up at the corner cuts. I am using oracle pro vinyl (not sure if this is good or not, but it costs enough).
Any help or hints on setup of plotter cutters is appreciated. This cutter came with almost no info except to basically say trial and error. This is an expensive way to learn. Thanks

    Hmmm.

I’m not familiar with you machine but my first reaction to cutter problems is to try another blade.

Sounds like a faulty blade to me.
    Check it first.
If the blade isn´t perfect it may cause the vinyl to tear.

Either blunt / chipped blade, (or the bearings are sticking) or you’ve got the offset set waaaaay out. Try resetting everything to defaults again and about 105-110g with a new blade, cutting speed around 500mm/s (quite slow), and the blade sticking out of the holder by 0.5 to 0.75mm.

Hope that helps as the above is a non-specific setup, just averages of a few machines I’ve used.

also depends how small you’re cutting, i know when i do someting that has that silly little copywrite ‘c’ on it, that is it’s less than about 4mm across, it just pops it out for some reason, if small text, i always try and persuade the customer to go with a rounded font, explaining the problem, mentioning they’d have to pay a premium for my time and wasted materials to weed small stuff, they go for it.

Just a thought is your blade holder adjustable, if so and it is set wrong altering the electronic settings will do very little to solve the problem

Thank you all so much for the help, I guess I was way off. New blade was a help, under an eye loop saw that it was chipped, not sure how that happened, I also had the blade too shallow from the holder and about 100g too much weight. About the only thing I guess I did right was the speed. Well, I guess we all have to learn sometime. I have done airbrushing and art for years but I am trying this vinyl line now to add to longevity in my work (also, never hurts to learn new things). Once again, Thanks

    Hi Clayton,
    Welcome!
When you get a chance you should post an intro in the “say hello” forum. You already got your picture sorted so Carrie won’t be asking you to post one. 😀
Glad you got your blade sorted out.
