  • Cutting Techinques for 3mm foamex?

Posted by Ryan Fairweather on 16 February 2006 at 17:20

Does anyone have a particular technique for cutting shapes out of 3mm foam-ex?

I only have to do a couple of A4 sized ovals but cutting with the titanium scissors does not really leave a finish that I’m happy with.

    Any suggestions?

    hi ryan

you can use a router with a sacrificial piece of foamex or board underneath. this leaves a good finish, but makes a hell of a mess!!!

Hi Ryan, I recently had a small job to cut an angel wing shape out of 3mm. Too small a job to get it CNC’d so I butchered a bit of foamex with a scalpel… there must be a better way I thought!

So…. I’ve just bought a hand held Dremell multi-tool off ebay for a tenner, it came with lots of different attachments including tiny cutting discs and sanding belts, perfect for cutting shapes and then smoothing edges out of foamex! Works a treat!
