  • Banner graphics – application tips please?

Posted by Richard Fuller on 10 February 2006 at 09:45

Hi all. I am making up a banner this weekend, 4metres by 2metres. Its already seamed and eyeleted. I am unable to print on it so going to do the graphics in cut vinyl, and then application tape them up. The vinyl is of a type compatible for banners.

Any tips on the best way how to apply etc and keeping the text nice and straight.

    Best regards

Hinge & tape along the top edge, measure off top seam as long as it’s straight, cut into manageable chunks between the tape (at least 3 strips of masking tape to each piece) & apply as normal (dry!) Leave app. tape on until finished so you can check all pieces butt up as they should.

    Good advice Lorraine 😛

G Clamp the banner at all for corners of your working area to stretch it tight, and try to keep as flat as you can, may be a bit large, but you’ll need to sit it on a flat surface to make the job easier.

Other than that, Lorraines advice here is about the easiest way to do it.

    good advice above. 😉
if you have a wooden bench top, a good way is to put a screw half way into bench but thru the eyelets, top and bottom. then have somebody pulling the banner taught, and put another two screws in, one top one bottom. work your way along the banner and it will be nice and tight!
if your benches cant take the lot in one go. print off the layout and on screen measure in and up for each line of text and write onto layout.
then fixing one bit of the banner to the table put on your measurements and apply. then take off, move it along and do same till complete.

    hope that made sense! 😕

When laying out on the bench i found that on long piece of text for example it took a while getting it straight before applying masking tape
you know the scene measure one end try not to move and then measure and adjust the other and the first end has drifted i measure one end and
put a big swadge of blue tack on it so it dont move measure the other and then tape it up saves a bit of time and masking tape i also always put a 5 mm weed box around text etc to help lining up
also same as shane quick release clamps are a big help

    derek

You can also attach bungee cords to the grommets and then to the end of the bench to keep the banner nice and taught.
