  • Chrome vinyl to be Lacquered over on a vehicle

Hi, I’ve had enquiries from someone who wants to have chrome reflective letters put on the side of a van, then they would like to lacquer over it. The vinyls I have been looking at only seem to be recommended for indoor use. Does anyone know of anything that I could use, and where best to purchase from? Also how suitable would it be for spraying over, wouldn’t want the lacquer not to stick well under exterior conditions, sunlight/frost etc.

    Thanks Ali

Holographic vinyls do a 5yr chrome @£9.20per mtr http://www.holographicvinyl.co.uk. Never tryed it though.

I do quite a few jet ski stickers in chrome which are laquered over afterwards. I guess frog juice would prolong it’s life on a van.

I’ve had normal chrome vinyl on my van for 2yrs now still looks ok but in need of changing. Always try and put the chrome over a better quality vinyl, ie, a black outline, shadow etc.

I spray laquer a lot of digital prints as i havent got a laminator, and theres a painter next door. The laquer he uses is the type used for base coat car paints and is made up with 40% thinners. Sounds dodgy, but this stuff dries in no time.
graffityp do a range of liquid laminates, spray can or ltr tubs. Allways found them good, but pricey. Hope this helps

    Alistair,

I’ve just recently done a job with chrome material, on a van. It’s a Metamark exterior grade polish with a 5 year external durability. This will not need to be laquered, it will last no problem.
    Here’s a link if it’s any use.

Meant to say, I paid approx £18 per metre for 610mm
