can oracal 751c be ok to be heated?
Posted by valegraphics on 25 January 2006 at 10:53Hi again,
Could anyone tell me if oracal 751c would be ok to be heated and stretched into the swages of a vauxhall movano. Ive seen robs demo on an escort van so i was just thinking…………? Or should i go for a wrap. The van has an existing painted "phs swoosh" in yellow from top rear corner to front of bonnet. The widest part of the swoosh is only 16" getting narrower to the front. I have spoken to my rep about meta 2100 series, but he says that it should be fed rather than stretched and heated into curves,at the top of the van this is not possible. Cheers. Hope ive explained well enough?

751c or 851 are both good for heating and streching. If it is just a colour change, try 870 wrap material.

It is always good practice to feed the vinyl in wherever, and as much as, you can.
The less stretching you do the less scope there is for problems, whatever material you use.

Absolutely as John says, the movano has comparativley gentle indents so unless going into a corner of the panel, feed is the way to go, one thing to remember though, always work in the same direction, like top to bottom, if you dont things may not line up, because of the loss to the indents.

Do you use it a lot peter? And how is the price of cast cheaper than most CALENDERED vinyl, sounds too good to be true, whats the catch!

Matt, I use a fair bid, It is good value as a cast, but you cant compare it with rap vinyl, if you are “feeding” it round the curves no problem. but even the best cast vinyl has its limits if you stretch it into recesses, its horses for courses, but for most “normal signs” on a movano, oracle should be up to the job. Do you have a picture or drawing of what you intend to do?

quote valegraphics:Cheers shane. Is that an oracal product?
Yes it is Oracal too.
John and Peter have good advice to. I have no idea what the vehicle looks like, so can’t advise on the application…

Well i explained what i needed to do with the vinyl to the guy on the phone at the bristol depot and he seemed to think that 751c would be fine “stretching” over the curves. But i think that i should get away with it. I have told the customer that i may have to “gasket” the nasty recesses. Shane the recesses are about as deep as the ones on robs demo when he tests 751c with something close to 052 on the cast swatch. This was dated mon 8th aug 05 (ithink) Matt

well done mate. 100 posts. Keep it up and you’ll be here instead of watching the telly 😉
I’d be going with the 851 myself. Did a 751c job today on a deep recess, and I pushed it to its limits. Just started to lose colour. 851 is much thinner and an excellent product.
Don’t forget to heat the stretchefd area when you have finished tho. That is an important step. 🙄
