Need help matching Pantone 308 please?
Hi Guys.
Sorry, it’s another pantone question again. My local council have asked me to re-do all their vehicles, and were very specific about the colour, Pantone 308. Well, untill I told them the price. Avery want £1300 for 1 No. 1230mm 50M roll of the stuff! 😮
Unsuprisingly, the council coughed quite hard at this & asked me to find a close match using ‘normal’ vinyl.
So far, the closest I can get, & it’s not very close at all really, is Oracal 608 Petrol, or Avery 833 blue/943 Petrol.
Can anyone get closer? Needs to be a minimum of 5 year vinyl, pref 7 year.

Maybe Oracal 751 Cast 595 or maybe this is the closest: Oracal 851 nr 630 (blue green) 😀

Mactac 9849-33 Turquoise Blue isn’t too bad a match either. It’s a tad more blue than Oracal Petrol, definitely a closer match.

Have you considered printing and cutting any lettering or logos in the colour you need on a print and cut machine rather than use coloured vinyl ?

Phil, is it easy to guarantee a pantone match with your cadet?

Hi, i just checked the colour… its out gamut colour.. so it will go a shade greener on a CMYK printer.. i think we would stuggle on our 6 colour

Corel Draw has a pantone colour palette. I simply look up the correct pantone colour in Corel and use that. Providing you are using the right profiles It matches extremely well to a pantone colour swatch. I used to have problems with colours (especially blue) on the colorcamm – but since I changed to the Cadet with the troop RIP I find it very easy to get a good colour match. 😀

do you check your colours against a genuine pantone swatch or just assume they are correct?
I am asking because a while ago I subbed out some pantone work, gave the ref’s that the client needed, but the print came back miles out.
I dont dont have a reference chart/swatches, so it caused me a bit of grief.

I have a pantone swatch that I use for reference when checking colours (using daylight).
I also now use pantone references to replicate vinyl colours. I find a pantone reference that closely matches a vinyl I am planning to use – and use that colour when printing or emailing my layouts for customers to approve. I find this to be a more accuratte way to replicate colours than using Signlab or Casmate colour palettes.

But colour matching is not something that I get to involved in, it’s normally nearest match for me. Just asking so I have your experience in mind if I do decide to go for digital in the future.Thanks

In the interest of scientific research I have just printed a sample of Pantone 308 on my cadet and I reckon the colour match is bang on 😀

hm. but did you print the pantone chart from your designer application, then go thru the procedure u normally do then print… or open the example pantone file that came with the rip.
Also. corel has a script for making pantone charts.

Mine printed quite close from the Corel pantone 308, I’m using Colorip that came with the older Cadets.
After all that I think that your customer will be quite happy with Mactac 9849-33, this is a 7 year vinyl and I’ve also used it successfully over contours on new wagons.
