Hi guys i have a renault traffic to do for a jetski shop in town here. I have worked on a couple designs. but am not happy so far with the eay it is looking.

You guys have an amazing ability with this kind of job. My application skills leave alot to be desired so i don’t want it to be too complicated.

Thank you so much for the help

    Hi Justin,

what about a mix of 2 of those designs, I like the red but not too keen on the black area. Like this…. or something similar.

But that’s just my opinion……. not that it’s worth much! 🙂

    Marcella.

    Hi Justin

If your application skills leave a lot to be desired then I think you will struggle with any of your designs.

I would go with something more like Marcella has suggested but try to keep the large areas of colour down to a minimum

Trying to fit a design like this if you are not confident in your abilities could be a real nightmare.

Saying that, I am impressed with the designs

I don’t have time this morning to have a play, but here is something I’ll suggest.
If I were designing something for a jetski company I would use blues, to suggest water.
With a cool name like Liquid Jetsports there is so much that can be done.
Your design seems somewhat sterile to me, not that it’s bad-looking,
but I feel that you need something splashy.
I generally would advise NOT using red and black together on a design as they have a similar contrast value.
But it is a nice try.
As for fitting, no advice there….I’m awful at it.
    Love….Jill

Marcella thank you for your idea it does look alot better.

Jill I am not too sure whether my client would change colors. But maybe i should try something with blue.

As far as the application , I have to learn sometime!!

Thanks guys i appreciate the help. Still got a couple of days to get the design right.

Now THAT’s what I’m talking about, Sister.
I couldn’t get the thingy to load so I never had a play.
But Marcella did something like I would suggest.

Brilliant – Another “free Outline” (Renault Trafic, Vauxhall Morvano, Nissan Primastar) to add to my collection 😉

Seriously though Justin – I thought your designs looked excellent for a first attempt. As has already been said however, two out of three of them would be very difficult to apply – and if you have little experience of application I would be inclinded to design something that was easier to apply.

    Thanks again for the input.

My Client is looking for something a little more “Race” looking so the designs i have comee up with have been along those lines.

Marcella and Jill thanks again for the help, showed him that one with the watery look he is not too keen on it. Sorry 😥

If you have any more ideas i would really appreciate them. 😀

Phil as far as the application goes. I have to learn sometime.

    Thanks again guys

You hit the nail on the head with this statement in your first post.

A complicated design fitted badly will not win you any favours

A cleaner design fitted well will impress your client and bring you in more work.

When I’m doing an application, I don’t imagine the client looking at it, I imagine other sign makers looking at it. They would be more critical.

I know your client doesn’t like Marcella’s “watery” design but I think it is the best one in this thread and not to compllicated to fit.

This is the balance you are looking for

Good luck and I can’t wait to see the finnished project.

    Hi Justin,

sorry your client wasn’t keen. It’s difficult to help with a design when you don’t know the customer. It seems your guy wants what isn’t entirely associated with what he’s selling…?

I think the ball is in your court here now to design it for him yourself as your getting the feedback from him.

I absolutely HATE it when the customer can’t see a sh!t hot design when it punches him in the face. The mistake I seem to make is giving two or three options as the customer will nearly always go for the one I like the least.

NO, the customer is RARELY right! :lol1:

    Very nice design mate

Your client should be pleased with that

Still a challenge to fit but go for it and I can’t wait to see the finnished van

I would not attempt to fit this on my own, you will need a second pair of hands

Well done and good luck (fingers crossed)

    Nice job Justin.

i would disagree slightly with Paul in that I think that it will be fairly easy to fit although I would have drawn the stripe slightly differently to avoid the area marked in yellow

I’m not disputing that it may be easy for man of you experience John

But early on in the thead Jason remarked that his fitting skills leave a lot to be desired.

This is not the type of fit that I would suggest someone tackle as a first attempt.

Fair enough Paul. I didn’t read that far back up the thread and now understand the reason for your comment. 😳

I just thought that the Trafic is an easier van than most. I wouldn’t have made that observation if it had been a Sprinter!

Are you fitting this one on your own?
What vinyl are you going to use?

I would get some advice on the best vinyl to use, as far as fitting goes this type of van is pretty easy but you are looking at a few problem areas with the design. Especially as you have litle experience.

Show us the finished article with some pics.

My advice is take your time.

    Good Luck. 🙂

Thanks for the advice john. I will check that area closely.

I can’t remember where i got the outline from i think it was from a previous post by somebody.

I normally work off a digital camera , but lost the usb cable.

I don’t use outlines either as most of our clients bring their vehicle along with them to our first meeting and I use digi photo and resize.

However, Brian, Are you able to tell at a glance if an outline is one of yours or do you have a signature on each of them?

I can tell from 100 yards Paul. I know every curve, spent many hours doing each of them 😮

    Cool

As I have said I have never used vehicle outlines so some of these questions may sound daft but here goes.

Are they full size when you open them or do you have to scale them up

I presume they are in vector format so can the user change the graphic or the colour or are they locked in some way to prevent tampering.

How do you show, say a sloping bonnet so the aspect ratio stays correct

    Cheers Brian

    They come in full size.

They aren’t locked not sure how they could be? they are just vectored graphics the same as any other. As you said they need to be for people to colour them etc.

As they are only 2D drawings there is no real way of showing the curve of the bonnet 🙁

Download a couple from our web site if you want to take a look.. 😎

can I ask how long something like that takes?
And how do you start? from an idea or a photo?

    Cheers Guys and Gals

Peter, A piece like this one will take about 8-10 hours at the computer plus the time taken to go out and photograph the oject etc.
If it is a big thing like a car I will work from photo’s but if it is a small object that will fit on the desk I may do it from life.
Sometimes if the object is very refective and has a lot of chrome it is useful to work from photo’s because changes in the room change the piece.

Carrie, I have had this printed onto a banner by Andrew Butler at Express Banners (see photo) The beauty of these images-because the are a vector- is that you can scale them up with no loss of quality.

Carrie, could you move this segment of this thread to the gallery please, Sorry Jason I didn’t mean to hijack your thread mate

    Thanks

    Paul R

Perhaps if Brian sees this he can come up with an application for them.

Where they come into their own is when the object doesn’t literally exist so I work from engineering drawings to do an artists impression.

I am going to start on one soon of a Catamarran that only exists on the designers table but the client needs an artists impression to intice investors.

    Should be fun

    Hi Paul,

could I possibly take a look at the vector file ( .ai or .eps ? ) file so I can see how you’ve built the whole thing up?

I’m sure others would be interested of course, and you can trust us not to use the image commercially, just for personal learning.
