  • Lamp-post signs (Illuminated)

Hello, I haven’t been into Newport city centre for a while, and on the last visit I noticed these gigantic lampost signs going up, they must be about 5/6+ft up, and 3/4+ft across. They’re obviously illuminated because they are so thick, They are curved, and at the moment they look really intrusive and a little ugly, not only that but they’re not centralised to the lamp-post and they jut out into the road, and they’re just asking for a smack by something.

Does anyone know what these things are?, who makes them and if they’re meant to be that way around (I would have thought the largest side would be over the pavement??)

Ramj, any chance a photo of this? I guess you are not talking about a lamp banner with two poles… or does it look like a box made out of correx?

ok, they’re actual illuminated boxes, with a lamp-post going through the middle just off the centre.

I’ll get some pictures later cos I’m going in soon.

we have hundreds of them here mate. i think its probably the situation of the lamposts being near the road. here the lamp posts are on the inside of the pavement so they hang over pavement as oppossed to road.
im not sure who is manufacturing them but merson signs has been installing them here for a few months. all completed a wee while ago though.
i think this is the councils way of getting into the advertising market. 😉

    Yeah, aren’t they horrible though?.

and here the large bit is overhanging the Road, and I’m sure if anything larger than a van goes past it’s going to get a wallop
