Do you all find that the felt squeegies scratch vinyl?
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 19 December 2005 at 10:56Hi All,
Do you all find that the felt squeegies scratch uncovered vinyl?
If I give vinyl a final rub, I will get tiny scratches, so I can see where it has been ‘buffed’ almost.
Does it matter? Trouble is, if I know they are there, chances are the customer will too!

Hi Lorraine,
I’ve not really noticed any marks either. As Hugh says, there may have been a bit of grit on it.
I like mine when they’re a bit worn. They flare a bit and glide easily.
Even better after a good ducking in water – nice and chunky !!! 😀
I wouldn’t worry – you’re customer wont even notice. 🙄

It seems to be a problem on gloss vinyl. I have several, and they all do the same. I am going to have to order a new one to see if there is an improvement.

Hi lorraine
I have noticed it as well! I have been doing alot of lettering in mirror effect and can see scratches on the surface – the squeege is also new (Mactec). You not alone!!

Hi Lorraine, I get it too maybe we just have more muscle than the others. Try giving the vinyl a light spray of water, thats what I do when flood coating big areas.
Cheers

It depends on the color… Felts will scratch anything to a degree, but on most colors you just don’t see it. Gloss Black, burgandy, and dark green show the most scratches, I’ve found. With these or other color’s, if I start to see scratches, i just hit it light with the felt, and take a piece of liner and cover it, then hammer it with a gold squeegee
