  • can anyone help with many problems & PCUT 630 please?

Posted by Glen Cordner on 11 December 2005 at 22:36

I have just received a PCut 630 cutter and I am having all sorts of problems with it. Basically I THINK I have tried everything, from reloading drivers and Artcut 4 or 5 times. The PC recognizes the Cutter (I think) at least it says your new hardware is ready for use when I reload it. I can get into the Artcut software and work in it BUT when it comes to sending to the Cutter it sends the info(the data bar shows it going to the cutter) and then the out put to cutter box closes down. I have tried various connections and ports still to no avail Ive even restored my complete system and started from scratch with all of it. I am running XP Pro and that has the capability of running as a Windows 98,2000,NT,and XP and even running the PC using them as a compatibility test the same happens. I would dearly love someone with one of these machines who could spend some time on the phone with me in front of my computer and you in front of theirs and try to talk me through what may be going on. I have used Artcut before on this computer with my older Dingtec cutter so I am sure it is a problem with this particular software I received with the New Cutter. It has a USB convertor in the software (i Believe) and I have my suspicions about it. PLEASE, PLEASE, make my Christmas New Year and Save My Sanity… (mod-edit) admin@uksignboards.com ,even better still, get my machine working and I will tell the whole WORLD you are a legend!. Seriously, any help will be much appreciated, Ive read all the links etc but nothing seems to ring true to the same problems I’m getting. Many Thanks Regards Glen.

Have you tried ticking the DTR/DSR and RTS/CTS boxes (in XP). To find, click the cutter button, in top right hand corner of window click setup, serial port setting – tick top and bottom boxes. Hope that was it!

If you have XP service pack 2 loaded, try uncheck those boxes and see what happens. Also in the same window, make sure correct com port selected. Then click “change”.

    Or

Does cutter display show “online”? Is cutter head against the little reset buttons on sides perhaps?

Thanks for the suggestion, Ive just tried that and still to no avail Im connected direct from the USB and have selected that, the machine is online and not near the stops. One thing I feel is not right though!! it said in the handbook that once I had loaded the software, I would be prompted to insert the other disc (which evidentally has some code on it?). I have never yey been prompted to insert it, the software has 2 discs on which is for the installation and the other marked as Graphic disc (which has the code in ), it is Artcut 6? dont knnow if that may throw up any more ideas or not, but ANY suggestions are appreciated. Many Thanks again, Regards Glen.

I re-installed Artcut 2005 a number of times and when when you run the artcut program for the first time it should ask you for the graphic disc (which contains the code for the machine). make sure that you have autorun selected on your CDrom drive so it can autoload this code in. I pretty sure that if you’ve never been asked to put this disc in then that might be the problem.

This will seem like a ridiculous question but I have to ask, is it just a case of right clicking on the Drive and selecting properties to see whether or not autoplay is activated. I get a choice of a list of things ie: select a file type that you wish to allow autoplay, the listed ones are music, video, mixed content etc but i can onmly select one for example if I select musice it thens asks me what to autorun it with Media Player, open files to view, real player etc. This probably doesnt make a lot of sense to you and I realise its not a PC problem forum but Im clutching at straws now. The last thing I can afford to do is buy a new machine at the moment. Regards Glen.

Are you running a usb 2 serial lead or is the usb version cutter. if it’s the usb 2 serial lead then check in device manager that you’ve set the usb lead to com 1 or 2 ( should be listed under com ports) as artcut only cuts using com1 & 2 ports. I ran a usb2serial lead and had to change this as it set it up on com 4 automatically.

I was supplied a USB lead only and the PCut on has a connection for that, Im not really up to speed on PCs to be honest so a USB 2 lead doesnt mean a lot to me, but one end of the lead is a normal USB typr (flat thingy) the other end to the cutter is almost a square (if that means anything). When the software loads it says it has installed a USB connector or convertor, but basically whichever USB socket I use nothing happens, I have tried selecting all different ones. One other thing that seems strange is that when I go to Cutter Set Up there is no port selected, so I select USB, or whatever, THEN next time I go back into set up the com port box must be selected again as it is blank again (not sure if that is normal or not). I really do appreciate everyones efforts, as I am getting greyer by the minute. In desperation I have bagan to look for another cutter to see me through, I have been offered a cutter called a Katana, dont know anything about them but I may be tempted to try it, at least it is working (well,!… at the moment it is). Many thanks again, Regards Glen.
