file format problem, please help.
just thought ide ask here as im up against time tonight.
i have a video that i want to load. its in avi format and i have just changed it to wmv “high quality” the problem is… the file size has “increased” but clarity has been reduced some.
if i leave it as avi, is a plugin needed to view once downloaded? if so which one? -

windows media player, supports avi as does divx and real player, I would think most people will be fine with avi

I would say. its faster to download. -
Or you can export your video as a flash file that’s if its gonna be online thing. this will allow you more to play with the file size and quality. There is a program for that i think Google search.

nancy there is the option to do this in my software some place and i now cant for the life of me find it. 😕thanks for the help folks, much appreciated. 😉

Hi John if your using mac OS 9 or OSx there is windows media player for MAC 😉 i use it and regarding AVI it should play it works on mine i use OS 10 x and i have QT player.

I am running OS 10.4.1 on a G4 and 10.4.3 on a G5. Both have Windows Media Viewer, Real Player and QuickTime Pro but can’t watch AVI movies. If you say it works I believe you because I have never thought that those three programmes wouldn’t be able to open something as common as AVI. Maybe it is just a matter of setting the right preferences or something.
It would be nice to have it working because there is a lot of good porn in that format. 😳 😀

no issues rob… just keep your frame to 320×240 or less and just decrease the Frames per second, that will drop the size a bit.

Maybe it is just a matter of setting the right preferences or something.If I understand it correctly, AVI isn’t a video format as such but more of a “wrapper” that can contain video that has been encoded in many different ways. If you have a Mac you can play AVI files if your Mac has the correct codec plug in for your Apple Quicktime player. Normally Apple’s player will just go get the codec’s when it can. A big problem today for Mac users is that a lot of AVI stuff using the DiVX codec which is currently not compatible with OS 10.4. I’ve been able to play some of these encoded videos using the VLC video player so you may with to download that.
If you’re getting a lot of Windows media files and you cannot get the Windows client to work on your Mac, you can try Flip4Mac. It’s a plugin for the QuickTime player that allows playing of Win Media. It’s really wonderful as the Windows media player for Mac is just horrible.

i suspect mac’s have it covered one way or another… there be a downlaod somewhere..
Codec’s are big problem with AVI, however a simple (i think cinepac codec) video will play on most things, however Flash is now the safest and best west to do video on the web as 99% of us should have flash pluggin’s installed.
