Fitting a sign on a corner.
Posted by Andy Gorman on 29 November 2005 at 23:28Right then, I’ve got a job to fix a tall slim panel onto the corner of a building. I was going to get some steel brackets folded to do this but does anyone know of any ready-made off the shelf brackets that would do this?

is it a projecting sign mate? whats the size roughly?
-
No it’s not projecting….well it is and it isn’t…..
It’s going to sit on the corner, like with it’s back against the corner of the wall. 10 foot high and 1 foot wide. I was thinking of using timber for rigidity and having some brackets folded into like the shape of an ironing board when viewed from the side. Then bolted through the panel. Know what I mean?

yeh, i think i am with you mate… ide not use the wood. and I’m not gonna try and explain, you know how bad i am at that? 😕 maybe better i draw something up…
before i go there, ide Say have the sheet of aluminum folded with 1-2 inch returns. that way the sign has a bit of depth and is rigid. the returns will also hide the brackets to a point… the absence of wood will stop any rot and also drop the overall weight a fair bit. not forgetting if its a 10ft sheet in one bit you have one hell of an off cut to cover in your costs?
-
one other thought… you will struggle to get a 10×5 in aluminium. ide probably do it in dibond or equivelant as it comes in 10ft sheets, easy to fold if you dont have a folder. and is much lighter again.
-
Yes, the dibond was my other consideration. I can make it how I want really, they just want a vertical sign and are not bothered how I do it. There are other folded trays in the job so making another one is no problem. My idea was either to have a strip of steel folded into a X shape with a bar across the top or get a plate welded to some angle and the angle would sit over the corner and the plate would bolt to the sign. Like this K

yep. understood 100%… ide say the welded bracket like the (K) would be best… (even better if done in ally) = the legs dont have to be that big i wouldnt imagine. if its high enough you will get away with fixing the K frame then just riveting on the panel with some vhb tape on the rear ide imagine.
