Just been cruising Ebay and cannot believe the number of people offering banners, and the price is starting to scare me.

If this is how cheap you can put banners out at, I’m off to buy a Cadet too

Surely his vinyl/paper rack in the background will cause marks to form in the vinyl/paper due to the weight.

I was not too happy when they added the Signmakers section, OK it was easy for me to look for secondhand equipment, but it meant more companies/people were selling new cheap equipment there too. We have been down this road before I know, so that’s all I am saying.

Off to get my kit off for the calender shot!

banner is probably the cheapest thing you can run through your cadet… well paper etc i guess but for signage i mean. i think its about £2.20 in ink costs per square metre, banner material. depending on quality of the banner material you can get for about £1 a square metre.
its weather you want to be a busy fool or not i guess is the question with those prices.

Doesn’t mention about seamed & eyelet’s though, that’s what takes the time to do. Only use those plastic grippers for indoor use.

Desparate people in my books. I would never sell myself short. As rob said “a busy fool” 🙄

I would think this is probably just a gimmick to get your attention and when its pointed out that the small banner is not suitable for your needs…………up goes the price. So it could work both ways (?)

    Here we go again,
It is of no matter if this is cheap or expensive.
the seller has worked out the cost that suits him.
That I’m afraid is called competition, All it says to me is, whats the point of investing in a digital printer, if I can buy in for this sort of price, and resell for a quick profit.
If you have invested in a cadet or similar, just remember that so have lots of others. and in my opinion, what the sales people tell you you can charge for a metre is not always the same as customers are prepared to pay

    £2.20… blimey… more like £5-£8 a sq mtr(depends on res/passes/ink coverage etc etc)

One thing I noticed… where’s the take up roller? This is the first time I see a cadet (appart from SignUK)

How can you print without take up?? Means you got to watch it and pull it along the floor or roll it onto a tube.

£30-£34 is too cheap… cant see the profit in that at all, looks like a sideline cost just to keep the machine busy.

Speaking of ebay… my old Albatros was re-advertised but it was a fake listing in America.. i had ebay remove it

I have to agree with Peter.

A young guy called me up a few weeks ago and offered me full colour digi printing, wide format everything you can think of – £17.00 per sq meter -laminated !!!

His work is great, it obviously suits him and is brill for me.

I’ve been thinking about buying a printer/cutter recently, but when I can buy for this price – why bother !

If you wait long enough the price of machines will drop.

Agree with Peter competition is competition and competition is good! Gets rid of the deadwoods, inspires, motivates and promotes innovation. Someone opens up next door to you do you shut up and leave, hell no you stand and fight and customer gets better service and better price and you end up with a better business. Why because you do all the stuff you should have done months/ years ago to imporve your operation.

    Take this guys perspective

He can only generate so much business locally and as Peter says there are lots of people with kit out there. So this guys can only ever achieve a finite market share. I would suggest that if you walked into his place of the street no way would you get this price. He however is possibly getting business he other wise would not and he is making money this could be the cream on top!

He may be putting this business through the machines and not recording it in his books so no tax being paid if he gets 3 o 4 a month thats his bevvy money covered!

He doesn’t have any feedback from buyers so he may be testing the water with this one.

If you notice the next size up 10’x2′ is £99:99 more like the true cost.
The small 8’x2′ @ £30:00 must be a loss leader.

He mentions logo creation also, not sure we’d recreate a logo for nothing so maybe he’s making extra on design.

I was asked the other day to print 8 off 6M x 3M banners at £150 each. It was for a colleague in the trade but our printer was booked up so couldn’t help even after I’d laughed at him when he told me the price on offer, about £8 per sq mtr!

Believe it or not another company we’re happy to do the job at that price after he’d made a few calls, there are some real cheap digital deals on offer if you shop around, specialist printing companies need to keep the machines running.

i would guess that the price would not include design, other than simple text, i doubt anyone would really sit down and spend an hour on design, and all the materials etc for that price,

i do occasionally sell on ebay, and get sensible money, but i price at a reasonable price (i believe), i think buyers are fed up with the ’99p a letter’ type deal cos they strugle to work out what they get, its easier and better to say the max size and number of lines of text for a set pice, then the buyer knows what they’re geting, 9/10 i’m only selling text for panels on an old transit anyway, but i’ve never struggled to get £80-100 for a few metres max and about 2hr work !
