We have a graphtec plotter and are just thinking of changing our 54″ print & cut machine. Most of our work is wrapping.
-
I’m on my own so wrapping is a bit hard. I got a job fitting some Telewest vans this year that involved a bit.
how big is your business?
by the way its nice to meet you Phil.
-
Hi Nick,
Saw the van in Evesham the other day looks good.
By the way I am in Wixford near Bidford on Avon, any help that you ever need just call me.

Please don’t take my words as being cruel.
By way of constructive comments, I would suggest that you’d used a different font than Helvetica.
This is a hard project to do a layout for as it looks like they sell a little bit of everything.
While the cartoons are cute, their placement seems very random,
and my eye tends to wander all over the place.
I guess that’s good for the van owner because he will get a lot of attention.
But to a sign gal I would have liked to see more negative space,
more prioritization of copy, and a small variety in font choices.
Have you read Mike Steven’s Mastering Layout?
It’s a good book to read and learn from.
Have a great day, I didn’t mean to rub your nose in it!

PS I try not to put stuff like hours on vehicles, and you know how I feel about “tel.” by now! 😉 -
Jill, I would not have posted the pic if I did not want comments on it. I have recently got a copy of the book you mention 😀 but I find with most things the customer has the last say in the design 😕 you don’t often get the opportunity to do your own thing 🙁
The customer wanted it to stand out.
Thank you very much for taking the time to look at and comment on my work I have seen some of the layouts you have posted for people and impressed by what you have done.
Nick
PS its good to know were to get good advice!
-
I hear ya Nick.
man you should see some of the stuff I have to do here!
Damn customers!
At the mo I’m doing a golf sign that has the word GOLF on it at least 3 times…ugh.
The reason I try to be such a nag is that I care.
Glad you weren’t mad.
Love…..Jill -
Jill, only just seen the pic you posted, I think that would of been very appropriate :thanks2:
Once again thank you for taking the time do help others out.
Nick
-
Love it Jill.
I know what you mean about those damn customers, If we only could get rid of em 😀
-
Well done Nick!
Few hours work there, hope you charged accordingly.
I do go along with Jill’s comments though but good job all the same!Jill shear quality as usual Love the pig!
-
Thanks Martin,
I take all the comments on board, but it gets very difficult when the first thing customers want to know is how much is it going to cost, then they keep adding more and more, how much time do you spend keep changing it? they soon complain if the goes up! 😕 -
i think its prety good nick, i’m in no real position (experience wise) to be critical in any way, but i can see what Jill has just said making sense to me,
i think its nice to benifit from others wider experience,
customers ? PITA ! working for yourself is great, the only drawback is that you go from one boss to everyone being your boss !
-
I know what your saying Nick,
I don’t know how long you have been in the
business but it’s a learning curb regarding how long to spend on a job.Time is money!
Once the price has been established for a certain design, all add on’ s
should be charged for accordingly. It always shocks me that the
customer seems surprised when they want that little extra added here
and there for no extra money.
I’m sure if we bought something from them and expected for this and
that to be thrown in, they would laugh at you.We just seem to be in a business where people push it a bit.
Be hard and stick to your guns! -
Stick to your guns and don’t give your work away.
If they want more stuff, it’s more $$.
Vinyl isn’t free you know.
Love…..Jill -
Blimey Jill, you change your photos faster than I change my disposable
squeegees. I thought you looked like ”Cher” in the previous one.
Love the new one!
