Printing cloth on a cadet ??
Posted by Roy Roffey on 1 October 2005 at 12:01I have seen a kind of material that is like cloth on a paper backing – once printed you peel the backing paper off and the print is left on what looks like a cloth material !!
Question 1 – does anyone know what the hell I’m talking about !! 😕 😕
Question 2 is it the sort of thing you can run through a cadet??? 😉 😉
even I’m confused

Flag material?
A lot of cloths that I put through the solvent Mutoh Albatros did spread badly, with high tempretures I did get better results, the issues was ‘handling’ with the grip-rollers etc. Cant speak for Cadets i am afraid.

You get a lot of cloth thats suitable for digital printing , you dont need a backing for it , its normally something like a polysilk tight weave with an acrylic coating , ask your local supplier digital print media supplier.
We use the stuff and it works exceptionally well and costs us under a quid a sq meter , you can see the print from the back , but it doesnt bleed right thru (so not that good for flags , as you want a bleed for a flag) , you can use a fast vinyl profile on it , nice and vibrant.
You also get a printable mesh with a backing with big holes , very nice for blinds and curtains etc as it cant be seen thru if the light hits the printed side , but it lets the light in if you behind it and you can see thru from behind as well – also cheap stuff , like 1.50 per sq meter
Prints EXTREMELY fast as you can use the lowest rez fastest speed and lesser ink deposit profile on it as it doesnt show banding etc. On our soljet we print this stuff at 25 linear meters per hour (1.2m wide) -
yep i think that’s the stuff,
I’m getting a cadet shortly and I’m looking to print flags on it ( i hope anyway )
Sorry Chris, i Haydn`t seen the stuff outside your place mate, i usually go around with my eyes shut !! 😎 is it something that is easy to use or does it cause more problems than its worth

I used a product called Trevira on my Roland pigment printer in the past, it has an open structure so backingpaper is needed to catch the ink that goes through the meshes so it does not get in your printer. The product I used had a pretty nice bleed through so we used it ones for short term flags (max 1 month promos) and it did run perfectly (without roller problems).
When you get your Cadet make a standard email/fax telling what type of machine you have and the type of ink it uses then write down what materials you want to use and for what type of business – send the email to all your supplier and let them send you free testrolls/pieces. As there is a lot out there I am sure one of the suppliers will come up with some good stuff that meets your needs.
Good luck!
