  • POLYESTER FOR POPUPS – slitting neatly?

Posted by Kate and Danny on 21 September 2005 at 09:28

HI, we’re about to do our first popup banners, and after printing the material will want to remove the edges. ( where the pinchrolls have held it )

We still havent ordered the media ( polyester from hexis ), so I’m worried about how easy it is going to be to trim neatly.

Anybody got any good advise on how they do this task.

I remember someone mentioning a wide format rotary trimmer a while ago….. would this be suitable and does anybody know where to get a relatively cheap one from??

    cheers

    Danny

The way that I do it is to use a straight edge and a stanley/craft knife. A useful tip for an eight foot straight edge is when you order some 5mm clear acrylic ask your supplier to cut you a length 8′ x 5″ then cut vinyl into 3mm x 6mm stripes x 8′ weed out 6mm to leave 3mm stripes, apply to back of acrylic. You then have a straight edge useful for trimming up all sort of jobs especially, cutting long lengths of texts.

Print the outline and use a steel rule or a straight edge and a stanley knife to cut it
