  • Exhibition Display Board – best material?

Posted by Phill Fenton on 17 September 2005 at 08:09

What’s the best material to offer to provide a “Pelmet” for an exhibiton stand. The customer wants a 6000mm x 350mm sign to fit above their stand. Probably just plain text on a white background. In the past I have done this using 3mm Forrex but the customer is asking if we can provide something lighter. Is Kapa Board the right material for this and how should it be lettered? (i.e should it be printed or can it be lettered with computer cut vinyl).

Phil, John Cornfield is probably going to be the best person to answer this as its what he does most of, I have used cappa board for this sort of thing in the past and applied vinyl to it but was a bit warry about the application tape taking the paper off and I wasn’t sure if I should laminate it or not, I was a bit unsure how long it would last without being laminated due to just general dirt from the display being put up and taken down. The customer has never complained so I guess it was OK.

Don’t like the stuff to be honest too easily damaged by you or by client, corners dent and you have to buy a box way more than you need so you end up with a fair bit of stock to use up.

The core is resonably strong but be careful if you applying vinyl that you dont push too hard as it may show through.

Stick to kappa mount brand from Cox / Europoint and dont use the cheap alternatives as most dont have the alumium liner which helps keep the thing flat.

We push clients on to 3mm pvc it is just a we bit more cost but the client will get longer out of it as they will dink the corners, bend or crease the kappa easily.

I will check if i have any in stock Phil if you do want use it and save you buying a box, will do at cost for you PM or email me if you need it.

    Cheers

    John

    Phill,
    A bit to late probably.

When going into the exhibition business you should not overlook the fact if the product is FLAME RETARDANT, Kappa meets B1 and I also think M1. When going over to PVC you are able to save loads of money but most of the time you better shouldnt start about the index/rating of it.
I always use Forex for jobs like this, Kappa could do the job but have only for one or two shows and it should always be handeled with a lot of care.
