  • Silk effect stripes on an old mini…….help !

Posted by Cheryl Tissington on 12 September 2005 at 22:19

    Hi

I’ve been asked to produce a set of stripes for the front of an old style Rover Mini resprayed gun metal grey.

Fairly straight forward I hear you say !

Unfortunately they want them to look like red silk ribbons that have been just laid down on each side of the bonnet.

I could do with a little help with this one please. Is it best to use 2 or 3 different colour vinyls to try to depict folds etc or should I try to get a printed graphic of a red silk ribbon ?

    Any help really appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Cheryl

Sounds like a good excuse to have a go with an airbrush or a spray can. You could get a print done, but I’d have a go with some paint. Much more fun, and you’d only need to use one colour for some shading on top of your vinyl.

    Hi Cheryl,

There is an American company called Rowland Technologies Inc. that produce a range of illusion plastics.

The product range is known as Rowlux and the films are available in a range of colours in both rigid polycarbonate and flexible pvc.

Their silk effect is really impressive (I think they call it “Moire”).

I’m pretty sure that Creative Films UK stock some of their products. If you give them a call on 01298214006, they may be able to help you out.

    Cheers

    Joe
