  • is an overlap suitable on translucent vinyl?

Is it ok to have an overlap on digitally printed translucent vinyl for a lighted sign, or is the overlap obvious and does it take away from the sign? I am printing translucent graphics for a 4′ X 12′ lighted sign and only have a 30" printer, am I looking in the right direction by paneling the image? Thanks

personally mate, I wouldn’t be panelling a lighbox sign. The overlap will show up, unless you can incorporate it in the sign (ie use a black line within the graphic), but it will usually not work out that way.

can you post a copy of the design?

or you would be better finding someone with a wider printer that will print on contract

I would have to agree with Shane, apart from the fact that he is bigger than me he is also quite right about the overlap, even if there is nothing printed on the overlapping section you will be able to see a darker coloured stripe as the material is doubled up.
Personally if it had to be a printed graphic I would get someone to print it for me.

Thanks for the info. I will post an image of the sign tomorrow. The sign is actually a road side sign that is about 7 feet from the ground being viewed by highway traffic. Is an overlap of say about 1/8 inch really going to be seen from 30 feet away? Shane, I have been able to incorporate the proposed splices to go through a white section of the graphic, but do cross through about 1/4 of the entire length through the other colors. I will post the artwork and you will see what I mean. Thanks again guys.
