As a new one to site I am still plowing my way through demos. Saw the one the other day about using the centre hinge / top hinge method of applying a long text string etc.

What a brilliantly simple method and tried it today. Absolute doddle. I feel such a twat for not thinking of that before. Text went on dead easy without needing 48 hands! Luckily I don’t meet any of you guys or I would admit to not r

Up till now I have drawn a cross hatch grid on the application paper at the points I elected to cut the graphic, then line up the grid lines on the two adjoining sections. Works well but not as quick as the hinge way.

I am a hinged man now (does that mean I was unhinged before?)

    Definetly time for bed.,

i cottoned onto that one (read it somewhere) quite soon after starting, the only prob i occasionally encounter is when a letter or graphic, or part of, wont stay stuck to the app tape as i’m peling the backing off, its a right PITA !! then i could do with the extra four hands to hold the rest properly clear as i try and get it stuck back on the tape without kinking the parts of the letter thats already stuck down !

    Hi Dave

I cut long strings of text into pieces for easy handling on my own, but I cut a wavy line instead of a straight one and then I find its easier to join up.

Definitely the way to go for me the hinge method

The cost of masking tape is neglible against the accurate and easy transmission of vinyl graphics to the substrate. Bubbles are greatly reduced and applying ‘dry’ is a breeze

The hinge method for some is not an open and shut case.
    Its swings and roundabouts

Cheryl – me too, I cut a zig zag shape but thats cos I am no good with scissors. I blame Blue Peter – always had to get an adult to cut the shape for my advent candle, Val Singleton said so, so it must be true. Also the nurses don’t usually allow me to have sharp items or shoe laces (got sectioned when I said I wanted to be a sign writer)!

If I could get this blinkin white coat off……I’d be able to type with both fingers and do something with the 87 fairy liquid bottles in the cupboard :lol1:

    hi dave 😀
i have a customer who buys large cut vinyls from me..and that is his method of applying….he cuts two or three letters at a time, and matches up with the ends of the application tape….the funny thing about his application was when he showed me the finished article………he penciled out his line…..which incidentley was running down (squint) but his lettering spacing was spot on (it obviously couldnt be out) 😀 so that method works for him, but i would keep with the hing method….less bubbles 😉

John – I don’t believe you either. I used to be be Admiral Nelson and I don’t recognise you at all. Impostor.

Cheryl – Other then the rocket ship fairy bottles are no good. Now toilet roll cardboard tubes are another matter. Val could do anything with them.

Definitely had to many beers tonight. Going to bed now.
