whats the good or bad points with apa vinyl Opinions Please?
I have been using APA Super 70 for van signs mainly because they are a mile up the road from us and handy to pick up vinyl as and when we need it. As someone who has only been into vinyl for a few months I have no experience of other makes yet but I note from all the posts that lots of makes of vinyl get mentioned but not APA.
Can anyone tell me if APA is a reasonable vinyl compared to others? Also we pay £22.50 for a 610mm x 10m roll how does this compare?
I have not experienced any probs with weeding or applying wet or dry.
Any advice much appreciated.

i have used some of there stuff no problems and nice people you could save a few pence but they are very handy to you so that saves over stocking swings etc.
there chrome vinyl is good and very reasonable

buying 10m at a time is not a cheap ay of doing it, i buy oracle 651 for the most part, a roll of 610 is £60 + vat, or £2 a metre, i use vinyl corporation, but i know once you’re a member on here there are ‘group benefits’ when it comes to purchacing vinyl etc.
also, on common colours on bigger jobs, i always try to allow enough in a job to buy a whole roll if poss, that way your next job in that colour is already paid for !
i’ve not used apa so couldnt comment on that,

Chris – We have always found them friendly and helpful as well. Good to know that there stuff matches up generally with others from your experience.
Hugh – Your £2 /metre against APA’s £2.20/m seems to me that the price close enough particularly taking into account the convenience of picking up the phone and collecting the vinyle 10 mins later.
Agree with your comment about building up a bunce stock of spare vinyl. Do the same, the amount of ‘free’ overstock depends on the size of the job and how many colurs need to buy for the job.

true ! now i’ve built a reasonable stock of primary colours, + gold and silver etc, i’m starting to buy more and more shorter lengths @£2 a metre, min 5m at a time, but i still prefer getting a roll as it works out so much cheaper in the long run, doesnt always get ‘paid for’ by the customer, but i often try to be sure that the price covers the rolls, so even tho i earnt nowt on labour, the next jobs i earn more ! i think !
now if i can stop doing about 50% of my jobs for friends at mates rates i’ll be earning a living !!

I have the same logic about ‘the next job will earn me more!’ but I’m finding that will always be tomorrow (cant spell manyana). lol
I’ll end of with the best stock of ‘free’ vinyl in the bankrupcy court. Good fun in the mean time.

i know there shouldnt be, but i figure that a mate who can offer me somekind of service in return will repay in other ways,
ie, did some decals – 100 of- for a sparky, they were to leave on his big factory jobs, , i charged him half price on mark up and labour (still did ok !) two months later he wired my new workshop, 30yrds from house, armoured cable, multiple points in workshop on a proper breaker/junction box thing, had had a quote for £240 prior to asking him, he did it for £70 using ‘excess stock’ 😉 , so by giving him £100 off, i saved £140 in the shed ! i guesss i’m just hopeful that what goes around comes around !
ps, i do have 2 sets of mates rates, one for those i know i could call on in future, and one for those ‘aquaintances’ who all of a sudden become your best friend when they want something !!

I do agree with you Hugh, being in our profession I find you tend to meet a lot of trades people and I’m all for scratching each others backs.
I find some of my regular customers who have a few graphics every couple of weeks, sort of become your friends and a few almost expect bigger discounts every time they need something, this is where you have to draw the line and stick firm with your prices.
