  • Edges Of Print Curling – Help Needed

Posted by bongpig on 28 August 2005 at 23:49

Hi everyone. I have a little problem i was hoping someone could help me with.
We were asked by a Real Estate office to do some big prints to hang in the windows to be used as blinds to stop the sun. The prints are 2.8m tall and 0.9m wide with a solid black background and a little bit of white text. As it is being used as a “blind” it can only be attached to the top of the window frame to allow people to look out of the window if the need arises.
The biggest problem is my boss has his head jammed up his CHEAP A***. He has forced me to print onto some cheap banner material, attach the banner using “sail track” and stick a 10mm steel rod in a loop that was sewn into the bottom of the banner and as you could imagine it looks bad and the customer isn’t happy.
My boss had managed to do the job for less the $100 so we can still redo it and hopefully still make some money.

I told him before we started i had concerns about the material curling, he said it would be alright. He has been in the sign game a lot longer then me so i took his word for it, now he is blaming me. I just need to know if there is a material that will not curl on edges 2.8m long. Or is there some other way we might be able to do this? Any help would be appreciated

Just so you know we print on a Roland SJ-740 Pro II

    Thanks for your time 🙂

You need to print on mesh for blinds , not banner. The mesh is ultra cheap and doesnt curl on the edges and it has another quality in that it cannot be seen thru from the outside (or the side the light hits it ) but can be seen thru from the inside. Your digital media supplier should have some – this is NOT the same material as contravision , it has no sticky side.
There are 2 available , one woth a backing , one without , the one with the backing is the one to use unless you want the inks to go onto the printing platten.
It’s not a brand name thing here , so cant tell you the exact brand – but ask the supplier for mesh.

    Bongpig (interesting name 😮 )

The material Rodney is talking about is available from Halifax Vogel Group here in OZ.

Don’t know what state your in, but in Qld give them a call and ask for Brooke. He gave me the low down on this product last week. They sell the brand with the backing. Tell him I told you to call (I’m always looking for cudos 😳 )

Hope that helps. Welcome, by the way. It is a great site with great people. You’ve already met two of our most helpful group, plenty more here tho.

    Cheers
