  • Long Term Vinyl – Which One?

    Hi,

I have been looking round for a long term matt black vinyl (10 years +)

The vinyl is being applied to a polycarbonate flat sheet outdoors all year round.

    Oracal 851 Matt Black @ 2.60 Metre @ 610 wide
    Avery 921SC Matt Black @ 6.71 @ 610 wide

The price difference is huge but will the Oracal do the same job as the Avery – or will it need replacing sooner?

Also do I have to use the same vinyl make and type for lettering on the above or will other types of vinyl adhere without any adhesive problems or reactions?

    Thanks

    Darrell….

Darrell, 851 will last as long as the avery easily. Both are cast vinyl, both are long term. The avery will probably last longer on a curved surface, but I would question that too.

I have used both, can not understand why the price difference. Here they are closer to the same price.

You should use the same material for text, as the warranty will be in question if it fails. Plus a calendared vinyl on a cast vinyl, will reduce the life of a cast to the calendared life span. All to do with the plasticizers.

    Hope that helps
    Shane
