  • I need help-speedometer overlay change from Kph to Mph

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 23 August 2005 at 10:39

I have just had a customer in wanting the speed dial on a moped changed to MPH as is in KPH at the mo. They are imports, not yet registered, and cant be until the dial is legal for the UK.

The photograph shows the areas which are ‘lit’ when the bike lights are on.

I just cannot get my head around how to alter this, and keep the translucency of the new speeds & markings.
He has 7 in all, with the prospect possibly of many more.

Has anyone got any suggestions, or come across this before?
    Any ideas/solutions gratefully received!

    Thanks, Lorraine

How about putting the mph on the top of the arc and keep the rest the same. I have a bike that is british registered with the speedo in km/h only!

Hey Martin – why didn’t I (or the customer, come to that) think of this! Excellent idea. 😳 😀
    Thanks, Lorraine

Only thing is if you are doing 70kmh you are not doing 70mph are you. So you’d have to recalibrate where the numbers go but that might not be too hard.

Have a look in a motorcycle magazine. They sometimes advertise clear overlays for many common makes of speedo. You might get lucky.

i once did this for a chevy camaro i owned year ago, though wrote it on a little card and stuck it on the dash !

16.1kph is 10mph, so 48kph is 30, 96kph is 60, 112kph is 70, just put an overlay at the correct position on the guage,
