Help Needed – Desperate! Trouble with Roland Cutter!
Hello All
Went to do some cutting this morning using my little Roland Camm 1 (incidently cut fine yesterday?), and the blooming thing won’t load up at all. First got the error message “Origin Error”, and a horrible noise as machine tried to set in start position. Messed about with the lead (right hand roller) as I suspected it wasn’t sitting in correct position, and this seemed to clear problem. However, now when I press enter on machine cutter travels to the end and just stops and message comes up”Err: Bad Position”? Very strange as the left roller seems as far over as it can go so should be OK?
Would really appreciate any ideas how I can fix this or am I missing something very fundamental here? I also don’t have the manual for this machine as I bought it 2nd hand off a mate who had lost the book etc when he closed his business? Thnaks in advance.

I don’t think that you’re missing anything in particular. The origin may have been set accidentally. Have you tried resetting it? This you should be able to figure out even without the manual. I’ve had a look in my manual (PNC 1100 + 1100A) and it makes no mention of origin errors. It might even be a case of a software error; assuming that you had sent cut file. You didn’t say which model you have. Camm 1 is the name that Roland use for all their plotters.
One thing that I have just thought of and that is that the “eye” that reads the limit swith may be dirty. To clean any of these eyes, you can use Methylated spirit, or better still Isopropyl alchohol.Try ringing Roland on Monday, they can be more helpful than the distributors sometimes.

Spooky, does this happen even after you turn the power off and then back on?
I’ve had this before on my Camm 1, but it was fixed when I powered off and back on, making sure the head was at the start before I turned it back on.
If it is still doing it, it could be a dirty sensor as john says,

hi spooky what software do you use with the camm1 i have a pnc 1100
which is set up in corel draw if any help i can e.mail you the set up notes etc
i had a problem with the pinch roller lever (left hand side ) this was loose internally and the microswitch would trip out just took cover off and tightened it up no problems since Also if i have had a problem in middle of cut and have to to reset just switch off and leave for at least 20 seconds also make sure you delete the file from the printer queue
and resend it hope this helps if i have any problems harry at Walter Mathias has walked me through and sorted them loads of tips about blades strips and general stuff on the camm1

Thanks to all the replies. Left the machine in a huff this morning and went off to do a job. When I got back I tried it again, and though and behold the machine works fine (it’s a CX24 by the way). I have a little theory, and people can tell me I’m spouting dogs testicles if they want! When I went to use the machine this morning it was sitting in direct sunlight (at present the blinds are down in my office due to redecoration), and the machine felt pretty warm. Anyway, this afternoon sun’s moved around and machine feels cold but works fine. Is this cobblers or could that have effected it?

maybe the sunlight was confusing the optical sensors?

The sensors can be very prone to where the light is, I’ve had to move my plotter around before as the sensors didn’t like being directly under a “daylight” fluro.

It sounds like a sensor problem to me too.
I had the same problem with an Aristo and, although they use mechanical switches rather than sensors, it was the one at the far end stuck in. This meant that the machine didn’t know when the carriage had reached the end of its travel and that it should stop, resulting in the horrible noise you describe as it tried to propel the carriage out of the far end of the machine.

Well it looks like it could well have been the sensors then. Cleaned them up, moved the machine and today it’s chucking it down, more like a proper British summers day, all should be well! Thanks to all.

I have a question tho and maybe Derek could help me out , i just recieved a camm-1 pnc-1100, and wanted to ask you if you could email some important setup notes on the machine itself, i have treid for a week to get ahold of a user manual but no luck. the machine was new never used but in the box there wasnt any paperwork and roland cant help me either thought maybe you could. im a newbie and a half to cutting vinyl and have got the machine to work what i think is ok, but i know i dont have a clue yet. any help would be greatly appreciated !!!flexi sign pro 7.0
