Error code – no manual
Posted by ccmotorsport on 15 August 2005 at 15:01Trying to run a Roland camm1 pnc1000, when PC sends data the plotter reports ‘error code 15 – refer to manual’
This old lady never came with a manual, so does anyone know what this error code is ?
Also, anyone know where I can get a genuine roland cable for it ?

why do u need a genuine roland cable?
Are you running on Serial or Parallel? -
I have had the same problem before using a serial cable. Swopped it to a parallel cable worked straight away. I used a centronics one from Maplin.

I run mine on serial no problems you just need to set the dip switches and the pc to the correct settings thats all.

i have the manual for the 1000 and it only lists errors 1-4
I have the manual for the PNC 1000A also and it says error 15 is a baud rate framing/parity error.
On the plotter itself, via its menus / go to <IO> <serial> and either write down what Baud rate/ #data bits/stop bits/parity the Plotter is set for, and then make sure the com port on the computer is set for those values.
Or change the values on the plotter to match what the computers com port is set for.
Or, change the plotter to parallel via <IO> and set it to <PARA>
Note, if you change the plotter to parallel, you will 99.99 % guarented have to set the parallel port on you computer to SPP via BIOS
If you dont know how to do this, leave the plotter on serial.PSS. You dont need a Roland cable. Any store baught parallel or (NULL Modem cable if going serial) will work,
PSSS.
Your plotter is probably set for <SERIAL> if you are getting error 15
You cant send Parrallel if the plotter is set for <serial>
Set the plotter to Parrallel via <IO> on the plotter.
Then set you parallel port to SPP. I have never seen a 1000 or 1000A work on a fast computer with the paraalel port set to ECP or EPPfrank at cadlink

Serial cable connection enables the plotter and pc to be further apart. A parellel conection is not the best if more than 1.5 – 2 m apart (open to correction here) – possibly your problem?

Hi Guys, cheers for the assistance so far.
I have changed the BIOS setting as suggested.
I have set the port settings to read the same BAUD rate as the plotter.
Now the plotter brings up the error code 3 – bad parameter,
any suggestions ?

Is the cutter hooked up via serial port or parallel port?
If it is hooked up via parallel port, did you change the BIOS in your computer to SPP?
What program are you cutting from?
Error Code 3 on a PNC 1000-A means a “paramater was out of range”
Usually this means velocity too high, presure too high, job size too large. On a PNC 1000, error 3 means “protocal error” whcih gets back to baud rate/ data bits / stops bits etc.
——————————————-Do you have a PNC 1000 or a PNC 1000A
Can you get to <CMND> <IO> <ROTATE> if you have a 1000A
or
Can you get to <CMND> <INPUT> <SIZE> if you have a 1000Cursor over to <IO> or <INPUT> as the case may be and press enter.
Is <SERIAL> <PARA> or <AUTO> selected?Cursor or to <PARA> and hit enter, if you want parallel.
Finaly, get back to <CMND> <IO> <ROTATE> if you have a 1000A
or <CMND> <INPUT> <SIZE> if you have a 1000Curor over to CMND aqnd press Enter.
Is it set for MODE1 or MODE2 or AUTO
Make sure it is set for MODE2
Mode 2 is HPGL and is what you want.
Mode 1 is Rolands proprietary and seldom used language.frank at cadlink
