roland PC 60 not functioning
Posted by dsignbylorena on 10 August 2005 at 23:32I recently purchased this printer, used, when I first got it it was printing fine, needed some ink here and there but looked good. then I decided to look into why it was not cutting and printing at the same time, I got it to cut, but it is no longer printing. I went through the whole manual, tried everything. The seller told me it was in perfect shape prior, I feel it is probably something pretty stupid I can not figure out.
PLEASE ANYBODY!
HELP!
BEFORE I GO CRAZY.
paid lots of $$ for it.Mike Grant replied 20 years, 1 month ago 7 Members · 13 Replies -

ohhh my mind is a blank right now on pc60 sorry, terrible, i had the machine for years, i should know at the drop of a hat. bit knackered just now will try again tomorrow.
dont worry though, cutting and printing inst really the issue, would be worse if you werent happy with the rpint “quality” im guessing its a user problem rather than printer itself. sorry for not being more help just now 😕 -
I AM SURE IT IS A USER PROBLEM AS WELL.
MY BRAIN IS TOO TIRED TO THINK ABOUT WHAT I AM DOING WRONG.
I RECENTLY FIXED ONE OF MY OTHER LARGE FORMAT PRINTERS, AN OLDER ENCAD.
AND I THINK THIS ONE IS SO DIFFERENT, I MIGHT JUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING TO IT.
THE ISSUE IS THAT IS NO LONGER PRINTING, ALL INK IS BEING PLACED RIGHT, I HAVE READ ALL TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES AND DONE THEM ALL.
NO RESULTS, HOPE YOU CAN HELP TOMORROW.
THANKS

The pc600 uses resin cartridges and not ink , however you need to give a lot more info , IE what program you use , exact error messages , what lights are flashing , do you have carts with the correct barcode etc, does the head move as tho it’s printing, does it print only, what RIP you use , what drivers – almost impossible to help without specifics.
Why not go to http://www.rolanddga.com , they have a user forum specific to the pc series and ask the question there as well. -
HI, THANKS FOR THE REPLIES.
IT IS A PC60, I AM USING AND HAVE TRIED 3 PROGRAMS WITH IT:
FLEXI SIGN 5.8, COREL 8, ILLUSTRATOR CS.
I GET NO ERROR MESSAGES, AND NO LIGHTS FLASHING.
THE CARTS HAVE THE CORRECT BARCODES, AND ARE FACING THE RIGHT WAY.
IT IS CUTTING AND THE PRINTHEAD MOVES BUT IT DOES NOT PRINT, I GET A THIN DARK LINE IN CERTAIN SPOTS ALMOST A HAIRLINE.
RIP: FLEXI SIGN PRODUCTION MANAGER DIRECTLY OFF THE PC.
THE DRIVERS ARE UPDATED DIRECTLY FROM THE ROLAND WEBSITE.
HOPE THIS CAN HELP ME OUT.
THANKS -
If you are getting blocky out put with the print and bits missing etc I would say the head is dead.
I think you can download colour choice from the roland site thats what this came with originally (PC600) try that and if that don’t work then i would suspect the head.
Tell the machine to do a system report it should do that i black to see if its printing. also in colour choice there is a test file you can print. Are you printing on thermal material !!I also had an instance where the head lost its heat settings and had to re send it to machine this gave me prints with bits missing out of it.

Check the foam roller next to the heads , its on a little swing arm , if its messed it wont print as the head heats the resin only and the roller lays it down on the material.

i will try all the suggestions, any other idea?
thanks again everyone -
First things first. Do as Gordon (Forbie) has already suggested and try an internal test print (this does not require a computer or any software as it is done by the machine itself simply by pressing a few buttons on the printer in a certain order -your manual will tell you how to do this).
If it does not print you have a fault with the machine itself. If it performs the test print okay then the problem is outwith the PC60 and is tied in with your computer and software instead. Once you know which is at fault (Printer or computer/software) you can gradualy home in on the cause of the problem.
Let us know how you get on with the printer test first 😀

I did all of it.
IT IS THE MACHINE, I HAD ALREADY DONE THE TESTS, BUT I GAVE IT ANOTHER TRY.
NOTHING.
I GET THE SAME RESULT, THE CUT OFF THIN BLACK LINES.
SO I GUESS PRINT HEAD IS GONE.
CAN I CHANGE THIS MYSELF? 😮 -
i have not read anything about cleaning the head in this post – has this been done ?

I did clean it with alcohol and a cutetip.
If I can do anything else to try the printing again, let me know. -
If the printhead is gone , it will not produce thin black lines , it will have white lines where it prints as its normally only one or tracks out of many that blow or fuse.
You can DL a manual at http://www.rolanddga.com under their support section – legacy products.
Cleaning with a Qtip is a big no no!!!! The fibres are guaranteed to cause problems.
I dont think this is a head issue . -
In the print setup box you have to TELL the program what specific RED for example you want to use to match the cartrige. You can not just call up any RED in your Corel it has to be specifically matched in the Roland print profile.
I hope this makes sense (?) 😕
