im applying vinyl to vehicles, and im getting bubbles?
Posted by noviceDan on 2 August 2005 at 07:10Hi all, im just putting new graphics on our compony berligo van, and every time i do it i get lots of little bubbles. I used water, but then it keeps moving around and i cant get it to stick in the recesses. If i dont use water i get lots of bubbles. Any ideas or tips please?
Regards

Hi Dan
Have you had a look at the video demos that rob has posted on the forum? (sorry John, must have posted at the same time)
There is one on the home page at the moment.
Have a look at the way he uses his squeegee, holding it at a 45deg angle pressing the graphic down and pushing any air out as he goes.
Also, something Big G wrote on here about a year ago now when I was at the same stage as you. “Don’t let the graphic touch the panel unless your squeegee is putting it there” or words to that effect.
Even now I have that sentence floating around in the back of my head whenever I put squeegee to vinyl. Thanks Big G

My pleasure. I feel like Peter Ustinov, but without the Russian accent, being quoted. Perhaps I should have that quote on my gravestone.
Perhaps you could post a picture of the vehicle and the graphic you are trying to apply in the “show us your stuff” forum and we could tell you how we would tackle it?

Im having a bubble day today 😮 Everything I touch seems to want to bubble, I havent had a day like this for about 2 years, it must be the way I hold my mouth 😮
Have got the van till Friday so have given up and had a cuppa tea 😀 -
Make sure the surface is clean 🙂
Might not be just air under there…

Also Dan
Make sure your application tape is put on smoothly, no bubbles or wrinkles.

What is the best way of putting application tape on. Im just rolling it on by hand. Is that right?
Cheers

Hi Dan
We use an application tape despenser (about £80) and a felt squeegee.
Some people use a roller, some people use an old cardboard tube that the vinyl comes on.
I think there are a couple of threads on this subject
I’ll see what I can find
