  • V/camm print head replacement…

As anyone had a print head replaced on a Versacamm and how much did it cost.

I think a head strike has damaged the black print head. When i do a test print, all the strokes are there, but 5 or 6 of the black lines are not in alignment, so if I print anything which does have a lot of black coverage it leaves a streak in the print.

I have tried a full manual clean, and numerous cleaning cycles without much improvement, so any advice or ideas appreciated.

tim i am going through the same at present with some black lines out of alignment on a soljet. we are having a big go at it tomorrow before i give in and buy a new head. i dont know the price of the verse heads but have seen a post saying £600 but because all the head changing on these machines are so new funny prices seam to be branded about.

you should be able to hide the line by using 720 dpi.

    see what happens

Its about 2500 quid for a full set of heads on my Soljet , I think there are 6 heads in total , HOWEVER we did have a head replaced (black , funnily enough) and it did not cost us full price as it had not done the 6 billuion dots the head is warranted for and we paid a pro rata price , there is a counter for each head that says how many dots it has fired.
Whether you will get that benefit after a head strike is not all that certain.
I think the replacement must be done by a tech guy as there is alignment inviolved.
Im not sure whether this will work , but perhaps you can do black using CMY and not K , tho im sure this wont give a nice solid black.

when i say head strike i mean it has skuffed on the vinyl as it is printing, not a hard mechanical “bang”.

Usaully happens if the roll is near its end and I have forgotten to free enough up for the print

Yeh , had plenty of those and worse , the heads have got a stainless steel bezel around them that protects them from that sort of thing , its only when the material actually scrapes the had itself that there is a problem. I assume you have physically cleaned around the head itself , often gunk builds up and it occludes part of the head.
