  • can anyone help with scaling & corel & signtools 3 p

Posted by Steve Dawson on 2 June 2005 at 21:36

No matter what i do , paper size , letter size , etc etc , whatever do create in corel ends up trying to cut letters about 20ft high !!!!

    Any ideas….?

I have even exported to eps , and imported into artcut , no change , still can fit one letter onto a 630 sheet , as far as the screen tells me , my letter are only 5mm high ??

    Cheers Steve

Best guess is that the scaling in Corel is set wrong or you’re in metres and not millimetres, I bet Trev B could help you further.

Sound right , but looked everywhere , been using corel 8 for a few years no , have no probs with A4 & A3 paper etc , even do a lot of business cards etc in corel , just weird that the plug in seems to be seeing different setting somewhere………!!!!

I’d like to stick to corel if i can , as its what i know , have another post up for artcut , artcut is ok for lettering , but find it limiting any further than that , so corel is what i want to stick with , sigtools looks like it fits well….

Did try cocut , but can find how it integrates , pops up with its logo gizzmo , then blend away in the background , but dont see any option anywhere for a cut after-wards…!!

Trev B is the man you say , Trev !! , me needs yer help !!

    cheers , Steve

    hi Steve
sign tools has a default page size which i think is 1600mm*585mm it should also be set as landscape page set up
i would check that in your layout, page set up, drop down menu.

also you can set units in sign tools 3 check again you are in mm
if you type or draw some thing on your page the size should be at the top in corel height, and width,

you should move anything to cut to the bottom left hand corner this will start cut from right hand side of your cutter

    hope that makes some sense.
    what cutter are you using

    Hi dex……

Cutter is creation pcut , could afford anything else for the amount of stuff i need it for , but so far it does a good job………in artcut that is…

As for signtools , i only have the demo version 3 at present , and dont see many option for changing stuff , there are no drop down menu’s etc , just get the green button overlay in corel and thats it , there are some options when you goto print , page length is set at 3200mm x 640mm ,if i then hit advanced i dont get an options to change this paper size , just bitz like cutter origin , plot units (set at 40 per mm) post cut length (set at 5cm)

as for corel sizes , i always work in mm anyway , and my tests are using A4 paper (ball point in the cutter)

i’m presuming this is a size issue , as if i put a 5mm high letter A on my A4 paper , my plotter cuts an angled line from one corner , reels off about 2 mtrs of vinyl , then hits the stop button on the other side (wasted a bit there , thats why i have moved to paper for now) , so i’m presuming this is one side of the letter A its trying to do , but it may not be !!

corel has ten tries? don’t remember that.

corel is pretty good on exporting and importing these days, not perfect but it does work.

if you have a program which has limits and you are using windows xp, then you could try using “system restore” and “creating a restore point”. It copies certain registry entries and the tries might be stored there, when you have lost a few tries you might be able to reverse the process. it is a guess.

Try emailing the company who develop the software – they are based in Australia. We have been using Signtools for a couple of years and have had great support from them whenever we’ve stumbled across problems.

    Update from signtools :

    Hi Steve,
SignTools outputs HP-GL language and according to the Creation Plotter
specifications, these cutters are HP-GL compatible. Around 8 months ago we
worked through setting up a Creation PCut CT630 model and had it working.
Since then the makers of Creation cutters have changed the machines firmware
(currently ver. 4.1) and our software no longer works. We have tried
unsuccessfully to get them to test our software for over 4 months, through
our US Master Distributor, SignTools USA. SignTools USA have had much
correspondence with the manufacturers and believe the company was looking at
releasing a new firmware version to fix this problem, but we have not heard
    back for months.

Let me know if you require any further information.

    Kindest regards
