  • Dan Display – difficult to get hold of ?!

Posted by Andy Gorman on 24 May 2005 at 22:11

Has anyone ever bought anything from Dan Display?

The reason I ask is that I have been trying to get a quote from them for a few grands worth of stuff for about 6 weeks now. They don’t even return my calls.

Do you think they don’t like me?

    Anyone?

I’ll never find out if they are overpriced because I will never buy from them. If they take 6 weeks (and counting) to provide a quote I dread to think what would happen if I placed an order with them.

Why do some people even bother to be in business?

not gonna say much here but in my opinion they’ve got their fast food market corner covered until someone new comes along……

The only reason I contacted them was because my customer has an illuminated menu system in his takeaway and wants the same exact product for his new place. I wonder if they prefer not to sell to trade. You can charge more to the end user, I suppose.

    Sod ’em.

always in my experience i can come up with an alternative menu to meet customers needs. i find they say… i want to be able to change this or that… fine, they need to know what slats they want before hand? normally they end up, nearer the time ordering the slats complete with food description. or… they say i want to be able to change prices… this is easier as you just give them slats with numbers etc but vinyl is just as easy to offer. peal off a number and stick new one on… you can give 1-0 50 times along with menu, if they need to alter the food, again easy supplied. not saying its ideal, but i do think using this method menus can be a bit more attractive and hold less dirt! which will keep H&S happy…
here is an old one i did… nothing special, but explains how a simple menu can be a little different and still easy to change.

Making a changeable, slat based menu is the easy bit. This bloke wants a wood effect plastic light box.

It may come to that, except using a slightly more high grade vinyl. Suppliers of wood grain vinyl, anyone? (Not the mental expensive sort that costs about 50 squillion quid an inch!)

I used Dan about 5 years ago for a big job and they were ok but a bit of a funny company to deal with 😕 I think they are fairly expensive too.
I’ve also more recently used http://www.menubox.co.uk/ who were cheaper and seem to do virtually the same stuff – think there might be a link going on some how ?
Might be worth a try though – they have an online store/configurator too.
