does it pass over any joins, bumps etc? if so body swearve it… panels are fine on vehicles that are 100% flat & “CLEAN” but if a corner is dogeared or something it is liable to come off when they are doing motorway speeds.
the most common problem for magnetic panels coming off, is down to the way the cutomer treats them. most throw them on their back seat when not being used. they form an uneven shape and dont sit well/flat when placed back on the van. so get blown off easier. a big panel like this i would imagine hard for your custmomer to store proper when not being used. again, they should just role them round a card core but 9/10 the customer doesn/cant be bothered. it blows off, so they come back to you to take the blame!
other problems can come if the vans not cleana dn they pull the panel off… ass it comes away the tail end can drag while still trying to hold onto the metal, little stones/dirt etc sandwhiched beteen can score the paintwork.all this said, mag panels are good money but my opinion is to always mention these problems if proper upkeep and installation is not good. at least this will prvent your customer blaming you if anything happens…

Thanks for reply Robert, the panel is flat except in the middle there is a weld seem running from top to bottom about 3/4mm high and it’s this that worries me!

One thing Rob has forgot to advise you is to make sure you always buy .85 thickness not the cheaper .65. (To much on Robs mind)

this may sound daft but ide offer him it in two bits as installing that length isnt going to be easy getting straight. it would also eliminate the bridging of that bump. ide still advise him and let him make final decision

Its just my opinion, but mags over 1m long are risky. I only do them at customers risk, I tell them that they are not suitable over this length, and they usually concur. I also dont guarantee them to stay on, there is no way of proving or disproving that they were fitted and maintained correctly.
Mags are just what the are, temporary signs. anybody that says they will stay on is a sandwich short of a picnic.

I’ve just done a design on magnetics for a lwb renault traffic. My customer has two businesses, so I am applying to the van for his main business, and he needs it covered over at weekends for his bouncy castle business. I’m doing the magnetics in two parts, so that he can still open the back and side doors without having to take them off. That way they’re not going over ridges and will stay flat….

PeterI agree Peter that they are temporary, but I do 4m magnetics x 600mm (using the jap .9mm) on buses all the time, and I have never had one come off. Really depends on the cleanliness of the vehicle, and the way the mags are stored.
If they are not treated right, they will fail, but I stress on my clients the requirements to keep them in good nick, and if they fail, it is their fault.

I always try to discourage customers away from magnetics , unless they are really necessary. As well as being limited on a design point of view, if the customer doesn’t keep the van surface & the underside of the magnetic clean, they get little specs of dirt trapped underneath, and it gives the magnetics a bad appearance.
Also, if they keep the magnetics on for a long time, and they are dirty underneath, the van surface develops little rust patches around the trapped dirt…..not good when they then decide to take them off after a year!
Just make sure you clearly tell the customer how they should look after them, then there shouldn’t be any comeback…. -
Shane,
I wasnt saying that longer ones can’t or shouldn’t be done. Just to make sure that the risks are pointed out to the client. And they accept that risk.

Always round the corners to lower the chance of lifting.
