factory signage: rowecord
Posted by Neil Davey on 20 April 2005 at 20:01Hi, this is my first sign using dibond, it’s in two panels measuring 8m x 2m and blue vinyl on a white background. I couldn’t get over how light it was considering each sheet was 4m x 2m. Fixed using techbolts.
Think I’ll use more of this in the future.
Only problem was feeling sea sick after coming down off the scissor lift 😀
Cheers Neil

Hi Neil
Nice looking sign. I’m trying to get my customers into Dibond. Nice to work with.

Superb! Looks fantastic! 😀
Do you have the details on those Techbolts? I recently quoted for a similar type of job, and I was going to have to use a method of attaching to steelwork til the customer threw up when I gave him the price for the job. Ended up doing something totally different, but the info would be useful for the next time.
Cheers, Dewi

some people also call them hexbolts/hexscrews, they self-tap there way into light steel etc, no need to pre-drill. You also need a little fitting for your drill which accepts the bolt and holds it as you apply it, you can also get the same bolts with rubber/metal head washers, hope this helps

Hi Dewi
For screwing dibond to cladding
Sheet to steel purlins we use 5.5 by 32mm driven in by 5/16″ hex on power drill, these are self drilling.
Screwfix code 1906 tel 08700104141
Regards Adrian

Just to clarify things, you have to fix though to the structural supports on
these cladded buildings dont you. Rather than just to the cladding itself? -
We only fix onto the cladding itself, these screws grip the cladding and pull the cladding and the sign together

That’s a nice bold sign.
I have yet to try DiBond, but I love DiLite, which is made by Alumalite.
It’s hard to believe that something so lightweight could be so strong but it is.

Good sign, well done,I use a lot of foamex at the moment,I’ve heard of dibond but never used it how much is it, say for about 8ft x 4ft,if its as light as you say I will try to use it on my next job, and does it come in a range of colours? 😉

Cat
It comes in basic colours, I think.
It cost me about £170 per sheet of white dibond. (4050 x 2000).
And yes it is light, I could move the sheet on my own against the wall rack I have to work on but needed 2 people to carry any distance due to me only being 5’9″ and dibond being 6’6″.
Cheers for the feedback
Neil 🙂

Cat,
Is there a Westward Plastics by you? They do a similar product called Alupanel, its comes in about a dozen colours and costs around £60 for an 8ft x 4ft.
I think each of the plastic suppliers do their own product similar to Dibond but for the extra few quid it is definatley worth it.
I always try and push it to my customers, it is much more sturdy.
