"Renown" refills for the Roland PC600 – opinions?
Posted by cyberdine on 10 April 2005 at 06:32Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any PC600 owners have used refills from Renown???
This brand is quite new in the US but I’ve known that its quite popular in the UK at least that’s how it appears so.
I appreciate any feedback,
Thanks,cyberdine replied 20 years, 2 months ago 5 Members · 9 Replies -

The Renown ribbons are good. The only one I’ve had problems with upto now is the white ribbon, it has a tendancy to jam quite alot, but other than that they’re spot on. I recieved a mailshot recently, not sure who it was, but they were offering the roland ribbons. They’re almost double the price I pay with PrintOne 😮

Hi Robert, Dewi and Rick!
That’s really great to know…I first had noticed the site as Robert mentioned “print1.uk” and them I started browsing over the net looking to see if there was such a thing in the US and there is, and I believe that they opened this site not to long ago, it’s not a known brand in the US so far (we’ve got zeronine instead) but I remember reading about it in the forum.
Their prices certainly are good, I wanted to make sure about their quality before buying them, now you guys confirmed what I suspected.
I already contacted them in regards to buying by the bulk so save some good money. 😛Well I haven’t received my printer yet…should arrive this week, so as you can imagine there’s a lot to learn in its operation 🙂 .
Thanks again guys,
Thanks for your great feedback.Alex
Ps. I am working on making my own “cartridge refil changer like the one shown in the picture” (they cost $45.00/to expensive for a piece of cardboard) I already finished the graphics now only need the dimentions and I’ll post on the forum for you, so you can build one as well, if you may wish.

richRich, if you whip the cartridge apart and look closely at the white, its kind of chalky. I suspect this is why its jamming. Exactly as you say though, it prints for a minute or two, jams, you lift the lid a little and away it goes again. 😕 I’m getting a little tired of babysitting it through printing, another problem I’ve found is when you get near the end of a roll, it tends to pull the roll off the rollers at the back 😮 If it didn’t earn its keep, I’d sell it tomorrow, but every time I’ve considered selling it another job has popped up that its needed for. Add to that, the magic head that just won’t die (I’ve printed hundreds of metres without a head failure, even though it was over 10k in metres when I bought it) I’m just whinging for whinging sake, its a bloody good machine!
One thing I can’t get used to though, maybe there is a simple solution. Why does it try to change cartridges half way through a print? I usually print as YMC when I’m doing colour, so I load 2 yellow, 2 magenta and 2 cyan, but it just bugs me that it changes the carts so often 😕 And whilst the orange box is out and in good use, why the devil does it fail to recognise Kelly Green? Its a standard colour, its not as if I’m asking for pinky bluey yellowy gold! 🙄 Rant over!
Cheers, Dewi

Hi Dave, Yes Renown is starting their business in the US…but it’s not really known yet…They should make more advertising…not to many people are aware of the brand…Their prices are about the same as for ZenoNine…so I believe that as people don’t know the brand they preffer to stay with they already know…that’s my guess…
I will be purchasing some from them this week and see about it.
Thanks,Alex

I have now used renown white ribbon which is really good…no jamming here…
The white ribbon prints good…The only problem I have with it, is that you can’t used it as base…you know if you’re printing on a clear (or colored vinyl) vinyl and want to use the white under any color (red, blue, yellow etc…) it won’t work…I’ve tried on several different vinyls…the top color won’t stick to the white under neat…
Other than that the white as a solid color is very nice, and I am happy with it…if I need a white as base than I have few cartridges from roland that I use for this purpose only.
