you can use glue and tar remover, but to be honest, banners are so cheap to by its hardly worth the effort involved, and unless really desparate., I would supply a new banner.

I use citrus based cleaners. work a treat and still leave my hands lovely and soft 😳

i use white spirit – i leave it soaking in for a while then remove

I do the same as Roffs, soak a rag in white spirits, splash it about the banner. I leave it for about 5 minutes, then pull the banner taut and use a windscreen ice scraper to scrape the glue residue off. Wipe over with the rag to get off any stubborn bits and wash the banner with soap & water.

Same as Dewi and Roff
Make sure you open the windows though :vomit:

If you open the windows though John, you lose the ‘happy’ feeling you get that carries you through the day *hair*

You don’t need white spirits for that when you’ve got *drink* in stock 😀

I use glue remover from hexis.
I once used screen cleaner and melted the banner, so becareful what solvent you use.
But like others have mentioned, banners are really cheap, so it an`t worth the effort.
If you are cleaning a banner up, make sure you get paid for it, as it does take time and also to cover the chemicals/rags used.
I try to get them to clean it off. If they want me to clean it off they have to pay. Time is money.
a 10ft x 2ft banner is only £15 max, I`d want that for cleaning one off…..

thanks guys, client is cleaning up the banner, I just want to get it 100% upon return I agree re doing a banner is the shout, however its a pretty good rate even for me to re letter the banner as there could be a fair few.
many thanks for all the advice.

i agree with peter here, “depending on the size” it is cheaper to buy a new one than clean masses of glue. i know what you mean by saving client a few bob but…. lets say the banner is about 10 foot by 3 foot. cost roughly £11 or £12 & its gauranteed next day.. lets you get on with other stuff…
take same banner covered in glue… could take you hours to clean and still looks mingin.. 😕
take the hours you spend cleaning it… your hourly rate will exceed the £12 spent on new one…
you dont have to make a markup on the new banner, just use the low cost of buying one more convenient for yourself.on the other hand if its huge and only parts have glue…
the above tips are good…
something i do though that works a treat…get some tar and glue remover… from carvalet supplers and the like…
create a puddle of the stuff over the glue area… leave for3-5 minutes and then using a “bare” stanely drag it firmly towards yourself on the banner and the glue comes right off in one go…
you have to have a bag of some sort to keep dropping all the glue gunk into but works very well.the problem with removing glue from a baner is normaly the chemicals break the glue down, but when wiping it just moves the glue around and it catches in the banner grain making it look dirty & slightly tacky.

Hi ,
We used to use tar remover … but as others have said banners are so cheap now we tell all customers it is not cost effective to clean them.. If they do it we will re letter them, but they never clean them properly. We now say that due to new COSHH regulations we can not use chemicals on site.. that tends to work!!
Cheers

Had a guy drop a banner of the other day, and left it in my factory. End of the day, the factory stunk of fuel. I assumed my car was leaking petrol so spent forever trying to find the leak.
Was not until I unrolled the banner and found that the whole thing had been cleaned with fuel 😮 Glad I don’t smoke.
The fuel wrecked the banner so I refused to sign it. Made him buy a new one. 🙄 I found out later he developed a nasty rash on his hands… wonder why 😕
