I did a similar thing to this a while ago. I used 2 eyelets, similar to the brass eyelets they put on banners, drilled two holes large enough for the eyelets and fixed them in place securely to the foamboard. Then I removed the cieling tile next to the one I wanted the sign under, fed some cieling suspension wire through at the side of the tile (If you contact suspended ceiling suppliers, they will sell you a bundle of suspension wire for a few pounds). I then twisted the wire around the frame that surrounds the tiles, twisted the other end through the eyelets attached to the sign and with a bit of adjustment in length, got it looking right.

If I were to do the job again, I’d take a batton of 2×1 inch timber, just wider than a tile, drill 2 holes either end and feed the wire through that, to spread the load as it were. But foamboard is so light, this is more for my own peace of mind than to hold the sign up.

    Hope this helps 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

I had this product in my shop for 6 months before I finally realized what they were used for! 😳

They are plastic with a string. They “clamp” onto the piece between the ceiling tiles (if your ceilings are the same as they are here).

On another note, do you guys have the “speedpress” over there? It’s a product used instead of application tape. It is really handy for me if I have a lot of signs to do. The website mentioned above makes it. If anyone is interested, I can post some pictures of it in use in the “Show us your stuff” forum.

I think Rising sells the SpeedPress at Graphic Sign Supplies, looks like an interesting bit of kit as it saves a mountain of app tape. Do you use it for making lots of the same sign, or for making one off individual signs?

    Dewi,
You can use it for just one application, or for multiple signs. I usually use it for the 2’x3′ corroplast signs we make in the park. We only have a Gerber Edge, so to make these signs it is 3 panels. I can use the speedpress to make about 3 of these signs before it starts to lose it’s adhesive abilities. That’s about 4 feet of the speedpress material vs. 18 feet of transfer tape. It makes registering your vinyl easier as well because it is clear and you position it above your material before actually pressing it down. Not sure if I am explaining it correctly.
They kind of show a demonstration here:

Sorry for turning this post into an advertisement! I am just curious to see if anyone else uses it.

I have done loads of these types of suspended ceiling signs & i find that all you need is a length of small chain (sink plug type) a few “S” hooks & a battery drill. You then drill same size hole in top corners of foam board & in the flat horizontal ceiling frame. The holes should be slightly bigger diameter than the “S” hooks.
1 hook in corner of foam board & 1 hook in hole in ceiling frame.
The right length chain is then slipped over “S” hooks with excess clipped off with pliers. End result good looking signs & happy customer.

If this helps I did similar in a shop but used corex instead of foam, ran some fishing wire through the flutes and suspended them from the ceiling via those self adhesive sticky pads that have a mounting loop to tie the wire through.

Mate, luv to see this. We have a company here that is an agent for speedpress.com products, but they only handle a really small range.

Got my hands on a catalogue the other day and saw pictures of the thingy you have described, but would luv to have a better example.

Sorry to piggy back your post Brian 😳 .

    Cheers
